About this listen
Follow up to the bestselling Fallen.
In Torment fallen angel Daniel and his mortal love Lucinda think they are safe but evil forces are massing against them. As Luce learns more about her past, and discovers that the lives she’s already lived hold the key to her future happiness; she starts to wonder if Daniel has told her the whole truth.
What if his version of events isn’t the way things happened? What if that means that she’s really meant to be with someone else?

Expanding the world of Luce
What made the experience of listening to Torment the most enjoyable?
The fact that Lauren Kate is not afraid to change things up - it would have been the easy option to simply continue the story at Sword & Cross and rehash the first novel over and over to make up the series. Instead she changes the setting and expands the cast of characters. It is also nice to see the religious elements of the story given due respect, they are integral to the whole story and not just used for an easy plot twist.
What other book might you compare Torment to, and why?
Simply because of the ages of the main characters, Twilight or Hunger Games. They are similar in the way that they treat their target audience with a degree of intelligence that is sometimes lacking in this genre. The story here has much more depth and range, and is better written with a much better sense of humour. Crucially, it doesn't take itself too seriously.
Have you listened to any of Justine Eyre’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have listened to her other performances in this series, and this one is just as good. She has a very good grasp of the story, and her pacing and delivery are excellent. My only slight criticism is that the distinction between female characters is not always as good as it could be, which can be confusing if you are not listening closely.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The ending - you can't leave it like that! I was not too upset though as I know I will listen to the subsequent books.
Any additional comments?
This is the only series so far for me on Audible that I have listened to back to back. That must be a good recommendation!

OK - not Brilliant
How far can Lauren Kate take this story? The premise of fallen angels and good vv bad is an old one but after the first 2 books I am feeling she is dragging her wings. OK - they were introduced in the first book but this second one is simply dragging the story out. Plus, for goodness sake why say everything is a secret - talk to each other!!

Torment
As a sequel to Fallen, this was well written and re-introduced us to the colourful cast of characters as well as some promising new ones. This is a love story with its ups and downs, its secrets and lies. Probably one of the most realistic romances I've read. The question is, can the lovers work through it? The listener is left with far more questions than answers at the end of this book, putting them in exactly the same frustrating situation as the heroine. The cliffhanger ending sets the scene up for the next instalment.
