Summary
FOR JACK RYAN, THE GREATEST THREAT LURKS BENEATH THE WAVES . . . AGAIN
When a Russian superweapon is let loose under the waves, it's up to President Jack Ryan to find a countermove in the latest entry in this #1 New York Times bestselling series.
US intelligence is reporting turmoil in the Russian navy. Their deadliest submarine, the Belgorod, has unexpectedly launched. Who authorised the departure? What mission is it on? And, most disturbing of all, what weapons do the giant doors on the sub's bow hide?
It's been four decades since a similar incident with the Soviet sub, Red October, ended happily, thanks to a young CIA analyst named Jack Ryan.
Now, President Jack Ryan finds himself with fleets of ships, squadrons of jets, and teams of SEALs at his command, but what he doesn't have is insight into the plans of the Belgorod's commander. It falls to a younger generation of Ryans to do the dangerous work that will reveal that information.
But there's always a price to be paid. When the final moments tick away, will Jack Ryan have to choose between the safety of his country and the safety of his child?

Best in a long time... modern feel to a cold war scenario
This was a sort of rewrite of Red October in many ways, but really felt like Clancy had actually written it. i got the feeling though that it was intentionally so in many places as an ode to onw of the best books ever written. it really tugged at the nostalgia strings and made you feel like you were personally part of this new story as you know the old ones so well, and we know the characters. Great drama and grit, but with the added suspense of being Submarines again. Old faces turn up and if you've read the original 5 or so books, you'll know most of them, if not all. I was sad when the book ended, but it did make me think deeply at the same time, as in the business of Submarines, of which I know very well, and also under the current world climate of Russia trying to be the Soviets again, this book is right on the money with regards to a very possible scenario I don't want to even imagine. If you enjoyed the early Clancy books especially, then listen to this book! You won't regret it.

Great Story, Great Narration, just a tad over detailed with technical stuff
Okay, I am very used to the Tom Clancy books - whoever writes them. This one, read as usual by the fabulous Scott Brick, brought another Ryan to the forefront. Great to use the Red October as a foundation to the story, not cheapening either the original or this one. ONE CRITICISM only (Vasilli - sorry couldn’t resist that😀). As I mentioned, I am well used to the level of technical detail the books have, I guess the new writers, like Tom, have experience of military service. However, the detail about the sub instruments and personnel did go on and on a bit too much - even to a Clancy stalwart. Ease up Commander, we need the detail for sure, but just a little less or you might lose some of your audience. Well done Scott Brick for keeping me along for the journey.

Hunt for Red October II
Although this was not of course written by Tom Clancy it is most definitely the sequel to HRO. The parallels are deliberate and very well done. The Campus / JRjnr books are enjoyable but this was back to President JR. Brilliant story, well executed. Thoroughly recommend for any Clancy fans.

A return to form in the Ryanverse
Had reasonable hopes for this book with new (but familiar to myself authors) coming to the franchise and seeing what spin they would bring.
Some nods and winks to Red October (it’s a submarine based plot) and a handing on of the torch to Katie (ok for the detail nerds some licence is taken in Ryan history with the family background………the Ryan twins……..? But hey it’s Faction (maybe small f faction). Listened to it twice and it’s one I will come back too where as a couple of the outputs in the Ryanverse of late were just a little too plot convenient and shallow on character/tech details in short forgettable.
If you hanker for the sorely missed original Mr Clancy this book is possibly the best I’ve heard since his passing.

Excellent classic Jack Ryan
Fast paced. It's one of the best JR books in the recent era, in my opinion. Great follow-up to the series and Red October. Another Ryan family member emerges as a future principal.
