About this listen

In Toast on Toast - part memoir, part "how to act" manual - Steven Toast draws on his vast and varied experiences, providing the reader with an invaluable insight into his journey from school plays to RADA and from "It's a Right Royal Knockout" to the Colony Club.

Along the way he reveals the secrets of his success. He discloses how to brush up on and expand your technical and vocal skills, how to nail a professional voiceover, and how to deal with difficult work experience staff in a recording studio. He also reveals the dangers of typecasting, describes the often ruthless struggle for 'top billing', and shares many awesome nuggets of advice.

The end result is a book that will inspire and educate anyone who wants to tread the floorboards. It will also inform (and entertain) anybody who simply wants to discover what a jobbing actor's life is actually like.

Fantastic

If you like your comedy dry then you will love this book.

I thought that the first ten minutes were slow but after that, it was pure genius.

Fantastic audiobook, laughed throughout!

This audiobook is fantastic and made even better through Matt Berry's performance as the character of his own creation Steven Toast.

The Template For All Future Memoirs

Steven Toast has produced a wonderfully indiscreet memoir that raises the bar for all that follow. This tell all expose of the ruthless, vacuous, sordid world of the “noble art” will give every would be Mrs Worthington pause for thought. As one of the UK’s (if not the world’s) foremost thespians, Toast lays bare the harsh reality of our celebrity culture. You will never think of RADA in the same light again. 5 stars.

The man - the legend!

Thoroughly enjoyed Toast entertaining us with tales of the peaks and pitfalls of being a little acting great.

Matt Berry's narration is superb, although occasionally windy.

Toast's story about taking part in 'Its a Knockout' is hilarious.

Hilarious and a great companion on car journeys

This might be a biased review because I love Matt Berry and have watched many of his TV performances. The audiobook is hilarious and consistently draws on the same tropes, he never breaks character and I have listened to it several times now. If you like Toast of London or Matt Berry this is a must.
