About this listen

Andrew has one chance to pull himself up from his humble beginnings and make something of himself. He has been found to have a spark of magic deep within himself. To bring it forth, he must first learn to summon the familiar. He must use every drop of his magic to search the Lands of Mist and find the one meant for him. The one he will be bonded to for life. The one who is actually capable and willing to make all his dreams possible. Andrew may be small now, but he has big dreams.

Great book

The book was really good and had me hooked straight away. I'm disappointed there are no more as it has great potential to be followed by many.

Very enjoyable!

Much thought and detail went into creating the world of particulars, the bad and the good!

Please sir, may I have some more? ~Hold up bowl~

The story is gripping and extremely well told, the cast of characters is fun and interesting, and the antagonists engaging and believable all brought to life by the storyteller,

Marty, and Matt thank you for doing this, I really really enjoyed the story and performance.

If you like magical schools, coming of age, magic and pets, and a fascinating setting I can not recommend this book, iv not had this much fun listing since I discovered the wondering inn.

I can not wait to find out what happens in book 2!

If you like Harry Potter, you'll enjoy this.

I was hooked throughout. Story flows really well, good detail and good character. Easy listening and narration good. Would recommend a listen. Really hope there is a follow up book in the writing.

Interesting concept

It's 3.5 stars.
The story is very heavy on details and often reads like an instruction manual. Everything is detailed and oftentimes the same thing is repeated more than once. For example, instead of just saying that Andrew explained everything to coach Huff in detail, the writer actually makes the character explain the whole thing. Since we as the reader already know what has happened it gets tiring to hear the whole thing again in full detail. If I wasn't so interested in the concept I would have stopped listening to it. Thankfully towards the end it stopped.
Majority of the book that takes place in the school is about duelling. I wish other things were given equal emphasis in the book. After a while it got a bit boring. Towards the end when it looked like things were starting to get interesting the story ended with a curve ball. I won't say what happened in the end but it is obviously arranged by certain people to push Andrew out and into danger.
All the Nobel children were 2 dimensional and annoying, even the one good one. In fact all the characters are 2D, black and white. All good guys are thoughtful and mature and all bad guys are churlish.
Someone else mentioned that even though we are told constantly that bullying and vendetta are not allowed, some characters carried on with it without any consequences. I agree with it but I think it's the author's way of showing us that even in this world some people are above reproach due to their station in life and the powerful company they keep. I could be mistaken.
I am a little disappointed as I loved the premise and the setting and I really wanted more. I will keep an eye out for the sequel as I really want to know what happens next and I am really hoping we get to see more than duelling and also comeuppance for certain characters.

Surprisingly good!!

I stumbled upon this book in the plus catalog and wasn’t expecting much… more for light reading when I am multi tasking… the book came as a surprise… the characters are succinct and well thought out… the familiars are varied and no two are alike.. with capabilities which are just awesome to read.. All in all a good book, waiting for more to come

Very enjoyable

It is somewhat of a mix between Harry Potter and Pokémon.
Not the next great novel but truly a fun listen! I hope there will be more
