Summary
Against all his expectations, Dr Siri Paiboun has rather enjoyed his first five months in office. Now, as hot-season nights close in, Siri is spirited away from Laos' steamy capital on a Matter of National Security. Arriving in Luang Prabang, he's a busy man, examining carbonized corpses, dining with the deposed king, attending a shamans' conference and being rescued by the ghost of an elephant. Not that Siri's complaining … Luang Prabang is in mountains and a good fifteen degrees cooler. Meanwhile, back at Vientiane headquarters, it’s hot. Bloody hot – savaged bodies are piling up in Siri’s absence. Is it the missing black bear from the circus, or could it be a weretiger? Siri's trusty assistant Nurse Dtui goes snooping but, unlike her boss, the spirits aren't looking out for her... And just what creature, if any, has thirty-three teeth?

Charming story
Enthralling tale, beautifully brought to life by the narrator. I will definitely be downloading the other stories in this series.

Colin Cotterill at his best
The mischievous Dr Siri is very endearing, a rare look into 1970's Laos brought to life. The narrator is really excellent bringing the characters to life.

Highly entertaining
What did you like most about Thirty-Three Teeth?
I am hooked on the Dr Siri series and his life in the communist Laos of the 1970s as a coroner with connections to the spirit world - a wonderfully tongue in cheek concept! Well written, with interesting scene setting, great quirky characters, the story is both gripping and extremely good fun. I have read some of these books and listened to others. This is the second in the series though it doesn't matter that I have read them out of order. The great bonus is Nigel Anthony, one of England's finest readers of audiobooks. He produces a most sympathetic character for Dr Siri but points the humour as well. I can only exhort Quercus, the publishers, to engaged Anthony to read the rest of the series.

A cracking yarn!
Would you listen to Thirty-Three Teeth again? Why?
Engaging, entertaining, enjoyable! An unusual storyline with quirky characters based in a country I understood very little about (before listening to this book). The main thread is a thriller, interwoven with a little of the history and background of Laos. Lots packed into this great book and narrated with great enthusiasm.

The second book to enthrall
Just as the first. Listened to this in one sitting (while knitting) I love the tongue in cheek humour.

what a man
Dr Siri is my hero, when I am old I want to be just like him, and at 52 I don`t have that long to practice.
Great storyline, as are all the books. The author is a good man, he replied to my emails, which was surprising, and he puts his money and time to support the countries he loves.
Great story, mixing the sacred and the profane.
Thank you Colin

a joy to listen to
a quirky heartwarming (bit scary in parts) story read by a sympathetic narrator who brings the diverse characters to life so clearly that you can almost see them

Fabulous
This is the second book in the series, good narration and fabulous plot. I love the characters and could barely wait for the next in the series. I know I will listen again to this book.
