Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

What are you doing today to make your dream future come true?

We all have big ambitions for the future, but those dreams only become reality if we do something towards them regularly. To achieve audacious goals, we need to take action and make small changes every day. We need to think big and act small.

Drawing on cutting-edge research from behavioural science, Dr Grace Lordan offers immediate actionable solutions and tips that will help you get closer to your dream future, every day.

Focusing on six key areas - your time, goal planning, self-narratives, other people, your environment and resilience - Dr Lordan reveals practical, science-backed hacks that will help you get ahead. Each chapter introduces us to behavioural science concepts like the 'halo effect', 'confirmation bias', 'affect heuristic' and the 'ostrich effect', to help you better understand yourself and others, so that you can get the most out of your career.

Whether you fantasise about changing industry, landing that big promotion, writing a screenplay or setting up your own company, Think Big creates a clear pathway to the future you want now. Some of the things you'll learn include how to:

  • Overcome a fear of failure and throw yourself at opportunity
  • Craft the optimum environment for work and give yourself ample time for tasks
  • Rewrite self-narratives and tackle imposter syndrome
  • Watch out for other people's biases and stop them from holding you back

Think Big provides a practical framework to keep you moving in the right direction towards any goal. It will help you get out of your own way and propel you on the path to success, transforming you from dreamer to doer!

An engaging book with many useful behavioral science insights

In her book “Think big”, Grace Lordan guides us through the steps required for one to expand their horizons and achieve their long term goals. Grace draws on many insights from behavioral science when going through these steps, and in so doing backs all her tips with empirical evidence. Whilst doing so, Grace is super engaging, and manages to entice the reader by discussing her own experiences and personal development. I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking to learn about how insights from behavioral science can better help us to achieve our goals.

Great book

i was quick to purchase the book after listening to Grace being interviewed on a podcast. I was not disappointed. Loved that grace added a personal touch to the book by sharing some of her own experiences, whilst offering lots of behavioural science insights and study findings. I learned allot and there are lots of practical steps included which are all great. Grace narrates the book with passion and energy which makes it enjoyable to listen to.

Very practical

This book stands out from others in the self help type genre to me as it is so practical in delivering its message. It doesn’t seek to just inspire or motivate you to think big and do something, it takes you step by step through HOW you’re going to think big and do something. It’s excellent.

Authentic and practical - great for all ages!

Dr. Lordan uses plain English and relevant examples that make her call to arms genuinely inspiring. Any teenager who doubts their ability or a mid- career professional or practioner to who knows s/he has a bigger purpose but just cant find seem to find their pathway should read this excellent book. I am a Co-Founder of a successful and purpose- driven private company, howwver, after reading @GraceLordan’s book, I have decided to go into public service - it is my calling ( now I know!).

For teenagers

This book describes such basic concepts there is no way it’s aimed at adults. What person in their 20s or older still hasn’t heard of the concept of carrot and stick? Or the gorilla experiment?
I haven’t found a single useful / novel idea in that book for myself. But I can see it being interesting for someone maybe at 6th form or about to go to uni.
Also didn’t like the voice/ narrating - felt very forced (tiring to listen to).
