Summary
A diverting and witty crime novel by the renowned author of A Year in Provence.
Hollywood lawyer Danny Roth is the victim of a world-class wine heist – and he is devastated. Sam Levitt, former corporate lawyer, wine connoisseur, and expert on cultivated crime, is called in by Roth’s insurance company, now saddled with a multi-million-dollar claim. His leads take him first to Bordeaux’s magnificent vineyards and then to glorious Provence. Along the way, bien sûr, he’s joined by a beautiful French colleague, Sophie. In their quest to discover the truth, Sam and Sophie must explore many a château and its contents.
The unravelling of this ingenious crime is threaded through with Mayle’s seductive rendering of France’s sensory delights. From the fine wines of Bordeaux to the bouillabaisse of Marseille, this is pure vintage Mayle.

Great book, poor reading
I’ve long enjoyed Peter Mayor’s books for a bit of escapism, and this one provides that in equal measure. But the narration is dreadful. At first I thought it was one of those robot voices. Shocked to realise it wasn’t.

Great story of greed and intrigue
Where does The Vintage Caper rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
About half way up - good for detail, less so for reading
What did you like best about this story?
The detail of the locations, wines and countryside
Did Lorelei King do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?
She tried, but was handicapped by being an American lady reading a book by an Englishman set in France
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The agony of listening to French names and words being mangled by American pronunciation
Any additional comments?
How about using English readers for English books - they'll have to speak slowly for American listeners of course?

Never. Read. This.
Unbelievably uneventful book flourishing with snobbery and false sense of superiority of one sort of rich people over other sort of reach people. Nah.
