Summary

Imagine if The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy were a real, practical book about the mysteries of the universe....

The Universe in Your Hand takes us on a wonder-filled journey to the surface of our dying sun, shrinks us to the size of an atom and puts us in the deathly grip of distant black holes. Along the way you might come to understand, really understand, the mind-bending science that underpins modern life, from quantum mechanics to Einstein's theory of general relativity.

Through brilliant storytelling and humour rather than graphs and equations, internationally renowned astrophysicist Christophe Galfard has written an instant classic that brings the astonishing beauty of the universe to life - and takes us deep into questions about the beginning of time and the future of humanity.

A complex subject told in an easy to understand way.

An interesting exploration of the universe, it’s origins and the way it work. through imaginative journeys in space and time. A good listen well told.

Interesting way to present factual information

Liked: subject. Disliked: there was a sort of 3rd person-type narrative device which got a little annoying.

A physicist who admits we do not know everything

Thoroughly enjoyable story by the author Christophe Galfard which makes it easy to understand the theoretical physics of today. Very refreshing for someone of his renown to take the reader /listener on a journey involving not only what science knows but also what it does not know.

Incredible

The content and concepts contained in this book are truly nebulous. Devoid of rubbing shoulders with Newton Planck Einstein Hawking and many other past and present great minds this collection of concepts will astonish the inquisitive beyond the reasoning and comprehension of more mortal souls. A book that you will need to revisit in order to capture and appreciate a fuller explanation and understanding of its contents.

Mind boggling stuff

Kept me interested throughout.
Some rather difficult ideas in places but absolutely fascinating.
One of those well read books that will have to be re listened to.

Very good introduction to the subject

An idiosyncratic approach to a complex subject that can sometimes be off putting. However if you can get past this it is an excellent listen for those with no or little understanding of the subject. It will also help those who are averse to complex mathematical proofs- there aren’t any. Recommend as a good entry to the subject.
