Summary

A thrilling tale of suspense from the CWA Diamond winner and best-selling author of the Roy Grace series, read by Matt Addis.

Susan and John Carter are crazy about each other, and life is perfect but for one thing - they are on the brink of financial disaster. Surely being a surrogate mother to another man's child won't harm such a strong relationship? Especially when the mysterious Mr Sarotzini is offering to save their home and business - everything they've worked for.

What seems to be a perfect solution begins to feel like an impossible situation. Susan's pregnancy is disturbingly painful, but no-one will tell her why. It becomes apparent that Sarotzini wields immense power, and Susan begins to doubt everything she knows. As she realises the terrifying origin of the dark forces Saratzini controls, she is in fear for herself and John - but most of all for her unborn baby.

Featuring a new introduction read by Peter James.

A fall at the final fence

As an avid reader of the Roy Grace series and waiting for the next book I thought I would try a stand alone story by the author, I feel the ending was a bit rushed.

Gripping

Maybe could have been shorter but might have lost something but became engrossed and had to listen continually till the end.
Gruesome in some parts but necessary.
Just the audible book for a long journey or like me doing the inevitable domestics.
Love Peter James work.

Ludicrous yet predictable

Ohh I feel bad writing this. I’ve loved all of Peter James’ other books but this is awful. So far fetched as to be distracting. An unsympathetic protagonist and a proper pantomime baddie make for a strangely dull story. Great narration though. He does a sterling job in the face of it!

Awesome!

Didn’t know what to expect as I only had Roy Grace experience! I have to say, it was cleverly written by Peter James, well narrated by Matt Addis and I throughly enjoyed it. Only down side was I got through it too quickly!

A must read for fans of the genre

I love supernatural tales and psychological thrillers and this is the best of both. I was gripped from start to finish.
