Summary

A gripping and heartwarming novel from the No. 1 Sunday Times bestseller, Dilly Court.

Lottie Lane is all alone in the world. As a chambermaid at one of London’s busiest inns, condemned to a life of drudgery and at the mercy of a vicious landlady, Lottie is too worn out to even dream of a better life.

Until one night an injured soldier is brought to The Swan. Lottie nurses him back from the dead and suddenly everything changes. She finds herself following the drum of the soldiers, all the way from the docks of Chatham to the darkness and despair of a far flung battlefield.

When tragedy strikes, Lottie is alone once more and thrown back into the jaws of London’s streets. With the threat of destitution nipping at her heels, Lottie is in dire need of a miracle . . .

Superb.My best purchase ever

love it. I am totally in awe of Dilly Court as an author, this is my third book of hers and I am already looking for he next. Annie Aldington is the best narrator I have listened to. she is very talented and complements the story and truly brings the characters to life.

Non Predictable

If you could sum up The Swan Maid in three words, what would they be?

There really are some people whom don't like children

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lottie Lane because whatever happened and also whatever was thrown at her she just picked up her skirts and got on with it

What about Annie Aldington’s performance did you like?

I liked Annie's performance as she managed to do lots of different voices so we knew who was speaking and also we were able to keep up with the story.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I DON'T KNOW IT'S JUST TOO GOOD

Any additional comments?

great story you didn't know what was going to happen next

The Swan Maid

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes definitely! DIlly Court always writes such interesting books .

What did you like best about this story?

The story made me realise just how different people lived during those times and I found the hardship people endured was so sad but the ending was at last happy.

What does Annie Aldington bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Well that is easy - Annie Aldington is such a wonderful narrator - all those different voices - well done - I didn't want the book to end!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The loss of people during the war and the way young children had to work was very sad.

Any additional comments?

I hope that DIlly Court will write a sequel to this book - it would be lovely to know how things worked out with the new owners of the Swan Hotel!
