About this listen
It's 1939, and the threat of war hangs over the country....
Flying instructor Ellie Simpson has grown up a tomboy. She's never had an interest in the latest fashions or finding a husband; her only passion is flying her beloved Tiger Moth. But when war is declared, she is no longer be able to do what she loves most - fly.
When Ellie is offered the opportunity to join the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, she jumps at the chance to help keep the brave boys in the RAF safe. But when tragedy strikes close to home, Ellie realises that this war could tear both the country she loves - and her heart - apart....

Enjoyable
First time reading this author's genre, and I'm transported back to society at the break of the SWW. Makes one think in the light of today's wars. .

Great story, spoiled by poor reading
The story is great, good historical background and likeable characters but slightly spoiled by the reader mispronouncing words - for example disreputable and sedan and two that stood out, plus using the wrong intonation. In spite of that, I really enjoyed the story and have bought book 2.

Not the usual leading female character.
As with several audio books now, it would appear that the readings are not checked for intonation or pronunciation, which spoils the listening.
