Summary

Tracking and killing demons is all part of the job for the Hand of God, Victor McCain, God's bounty hunter. In this fast paced sequel to The Hand of God and The Watchers, Victor learns facing his inner demons may be deadlier than the real ones. Turning to the bottle to drown out the memories of a lost love, he begins to take risks which could get him killed. One night, drunk and alone in a bar in Tennessee, he's ambushed by members of the Church of the Light Reclaimed. He would have died in the attack, if not for a beautiful stranger named Elizabeth. Later he learns the attack was orchestrated by an old nemesis, Preston Deveraux, and Cyrus Tyler, the new Speaker of the House of Representatives. Victor must lean on the alluring Elizabeth to find the truth behind their plans - only she has secrets of her own that could doom them both. When yet another player shows up on the scene hunting Elizabeth, Victor must find a way to convince the two of them to work together to help him stop Tyler from reaching his ultimate goal: to throw the world into chaos and war.

Tony's Best Book so far!

Book three of four and I flew through this one, couldn't put it down. I think it took an hour or so for me to get into the flow but once I did I really enjoyed it and was making excuses to listen more, drive the scenic route home, sneak an earphone in whilst the Mrs is watching her soaps etc. Now I've finished it I'm quite literally disappointed, not because of the content but because I know that as it stands there's only one more book in the McCain series to read until Tony finishes the next one! There is however a Sam Tyler spinoff which I will be adding to my basket as soon as my next credit drops in!

The narrator is the same as the second book and I had stated I liked the narrator of Hand of God more than The Watchers but Steve Rausch is now the voice of Victor McCain for me, gone are the slightly nasal tones from his reading of The Watchers, he must have been recovering from a cold reading that.

Back to the story, I had a slight idea of what the story would be from the title but I really didn't see what the end game would be until quite late on. The addition of two new characters who join the crew was a pleasing one, i do like them both, it kind of reminds me a little of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel shows I watched as a kid with the good/evil dynamics.

If you have read this far I assume you're a fan of the series and have read the first two books, don't delay get this one next and if you haven't read the first two start with them!

I received a credit to listen to this book for the purpose of leaving an honest review. I have done that and I would certainly have bought the book had I not.
