Summary
The Sunday Times bestseller, from the author of The Binding
'Utterly original… ensnared me from the very first page' EMILIA HART
'Storytelling at its most immersive' ERIN KELLY
The whole world disappears when you enter THE SILENCE FACTORYA glittering edifice, raw and shining. Great lengths of supple silk, rolled onto bales. And the closer you get, the more it whispers…
In the Factory, the looms never stop weaving. Cobwebs transported from ancient Mediterranean glades are spun into a precious fabric that silences the world.
But what happens to those who fall under its spell?
And who is harnessing its power?
After all, a world of silence can bring peace, but it can also conceal the deeds of the wicked…
The Silence Factory is an enthralling story about complicity, desire and corruption – a novel to lose yourself in.
'Breathtaking' GLAMOUR
'A gorgeous, gothic read' i PAPER
'A world that exists on the edge of time and magic… this is storytelling at its most immersive' ERIN KELLY
Critic reviews
'I loved Bridget Collins' last two novels so much I was almost nervous to read this one in case it didn't live up to my feverish expectations. I was wrong: in The Silence Factory she has created another world that exists on the edge of time and magic. Epic in scope and rich at sentence level, this is storytelling at its most immersive' ERIN KELLY
'Brilliantly conceived and complex' THE BOOKSELLER

Superb + quite spellbinding
I loved the binding and this book is very nearly as fabulous (nothing against this book, just spiders are of less interest to me than books). The concept of silencing spider silk is beguiling. The twists are a little obvious but the writing so good it doesn’t spoil the read

Great narration and enjoyable story. Personally I prefer The Binding but a close second….. a good solid 4 stars

There was so much missed potential but the narration was good.
This was a book I was very much looking forward to, I love, love, loved The Binding, which is one of the most brilliant books (excellently narrated). I want to love her books, but none of them live up to The Binding.
The characters were not likeable, although Sophia did become more interesting - and at that point it stopped her story. Her storyline could have been really interesting but there were a few lines here and there that peaked real interest. Henry, good lord Henry, was a dull fool of a character. I guess she’s written him well if that’s the intention, It rushed over parts making things seem unbelievable - particularly with Sir Edward. (I won’t leave any spoilers).
Maybe it would have been better if I’d have read an actual copy, but I’m really sad to say that it was just way too long with not enough of anything happening. It hit around 5.5 hours in and I chirped up thinking ‘here it comes’ . . But nope, just a little flicker of excitement and then it all went back to slow tidbits of offerings. I’m really disappointed as it had potential and I loved The Binding so much.

Interesting but
I think this had a lot of unexplored potential and I was a little disappointed overall. It took me several attempts to get into the story and I restarted it many times.
Overall, there were some interesting ideas but I didn’t enjoy it as much as The Binding which is absolutely incredible.
The narration was a bit odd in places with a few mispronounced words. Not a favourite but I like the author so would choose another book by her.

Not my favourite of hers, but still a great story.
Collins' writing is always spectacular so it delivered on that front, as usual. The story slightly lacked in parts for me, I found myself a little disinterested at times, and it's definitely not my favourite of her novels - but her endings are always satisfying and once this book ended I felt much better about it as a whole! My main gripe is with the male voice actor - I found his delivery and inflections odd and not suited to a lot of the dialogue. He's good at accents though, and when he wasn't putting an upward inflection on every other word, he was enjoyable to listen to. But that's just my opinion, the author must have been happy with his delivery and that's all that matters. Overall, would recommend!
