Critic reviews

"Mercedes Lackey returns to form in The Serpent's Shadow...."This story takes place in the London of 1909, and is based on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Lackey creates echoes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, pays affectionate homage to Dorothy Sayers's Lord Peter Wimsey (who plays an important role under a thin disguise), and turns the dwarves into seven animal avatars who masquerade as pets of her Eurasian heroine, Maya." Spoiled by the narrator.

I enjoyed the story but found myself wincing at the mispronunciations from the narrator. E.g. she pronounced “reading room” as “redding room”. I would have expected my 11-year-old grandson to do better.

Accents

Quite a decent reader, which is extremely important. The only beef i have is that the woman reading the book seems to think that the Irish doctor in the book is actually Jamaican. I have never heard such a bad 'Irish' accent. Really.

Magic abounds.

A good story with strong characters. My only misgiving, but only a very miner one, was the story seemed, to myself at least, to be very slow in places. But still a recommended story.

Well what a surprise

After reading the blurb I was a little sceptical but couldn’t find anything else to tickle my fancy. I was pleasantly impressed by this tale and I’m now looking forward to working my way through the rest in the set

I liked it.

That was very good. Its a great story. The Indian intrest provides a change to the usual outcomes and the story is full of interest.
I liked it a lot.
I am looking forwards to more like it in the future.
