James Acaster
Overall very enjoyable but the rival detective’s accent is like an impression of the way James Acaster speaks (for comedic purposes).
Otherwise highly enjoyable and something of an improvement on “the word is murder” which was very good too. Looking forward to the next installment, but would love another like “house of silk” that was great!

Horowitz magic with Hawthorne
A wonderfully twisty and intricate whodunnit using the Hawthorne formula.
Well worth the time and it pulls you in quickly and have to stay till the end.
Very happy to recommend without hesitation

Entertaining as ever but for those terrible female voices
All the hallmark content of a good Horowitz listen, but really undermined by the atrocious vocalisation of the female characters.

Fun, intriguing and self-deprecating
This certainly doesn’t feel like an add-on to The Word is Murder. It’s a good story which keeps you guessing in its own right and cleverly done. The reader is perfect for the self-deprecating tone of the narrator, although some of his female voices are less successful.

Narration
Book and story enjoyable but female detective voice dreadful. I can't believe anyone speaks like that. Was glad when any encounter with her was over.

i seethe with envy at Anthony Horowitz's mastery of so many genres. it isnt fair!
another enjoyable case for this reluctant detective duo, but i have mamy unanswered questions about Hawthorn.

A Twisty Tale
So funny at times, so clever in the reworking of the Watson Holmes relationship where Watson is so pissed off! Even though I knew he was being set up for a fall many times, it was still even funnier because of it. Loved all the twists and the prat falls and the publishing jokes. RK's performance better than the first time, but I still think he could go for more nuance, especially with female characters.
