Can you keep a secret? Your life depends on it…
When Bridget Reid wakes up in a locked room, terrifying memories come flooding back – of blood, pain, and desperate fear. Her captor knows things she’s never told anyone. How can she escape someone who knows all of her secrets?
As DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles search for Bridget, they uncover a horrifying web of abuse, betrayal and murder right under their noses in Exeter.
And as the past comes back to haunt her, Grey must confront her own demons. Because she knows that it can be those closest to us who hurt us the most…
Perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Angela Marsons. If you love The Secret, don’t miss Katerina Diamond’s twisty new thriller The Heatwave – coming June 2020.

Fast paced Edgy Thriller
The story a follow on from The Teacher, operates on two primary timelines; 2 years ago describing what happened to Imogen in Plymouth causing her move to Exeter, and a present day case with definite links to the Plymouth case. A well constructed story that starts with multiple fragments which like a jigsaw puzzle gradually link up to create the complete picture.
It is however a very dark book, black in places that may not be to everyone’s taste! Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed the book I have marked the story down a star for two reasons. Firstly there are just far too many coincidences giving story a slightly implausible feel, and secondly because one or two of the violent scenes, in particular the country house hunt, in my opinion added nothing to the plot and were unnecessary
.
Stevie Lacey does a great job with the narration, with extremely good characterisations. She must be getting well used to the West Country burr given that she also narrates the Charlotte Savage series. Overall I recommend the book and look forward to Katerina Diamond’s next offering.

Dark Secrets and Thrilling
Where to start I realise I have read this book first and missed the first instalment. But this is a great book to read if you like dark thrillers, there are secrets galore, a corrupt member in the police, a undercover detective at risk, DS Grey and her new partner DS Adrian Miles try to unpick the pieces of this complex case. Everyone is a keeper of secrets and the biggest one yet is towards the end of the book.

Visceral and gritty
If you are tired of cosy mysteries and cliché police procedurals then this is your fine single malt whiskey.
Violent and strikingly visual in its descriptions, a strong heroine and no cardboards cut outs.
Different from the first book, 'The Teacher', and much more gripping, leaving its predecessor in the dust.
I read on audiobook and the reader was very good, bringing the characters to life. Sequel, anyone?

More Russian accent than Greek
Complex, twists, suspense.
Goodrich listen to though occasionally wishes I could 'reread' parts to be sure of time and people. More research needed in sound of Greek speakers.
