THE SUNDAY TIMES CRIME NOVEL OF THE YEAR 2023
________

Private Detective Cormoran Strike is contacted by a worried father whose son, Will, has gone to join a religious cult in the depths of the Norfolk countryside.

The Universal Humanitarian Church is, on the surface, a peaceable organisation that campaigns for a better world. Yet Strike discovers that beneath the surface there are deeply sinister undertones, and unexplained deaths.

In order to try to rescue Will, Strike's business partner Robin Ellacott decides to infiltrate the cult and she travels to Norfolk to live incognito amongst them. But in doing so, she is unprepared for the dangers that await her there or for the toll it will take on her . . .

Utterly page-turning, The Running Grave moves Strike and Robin's story forward in the epic, unforgettable seventh instalment of the series.

A "couldn't turn off" reade

I was drawn to this book because of the calibre of the writer (Robert Galbraith, AKA J.K. Rowling) and also it's listening length (35 hours and therefore great value for money!) I think it could have been a bit shorter, but since I only listen when ironing or maybe in bed before sleeping for just a short while, it wasn't a problem. The story is a bit far fetched, even "over the top" but carries a very important warning to those attracted to potential cult organisations. However, what kept me listening to those 35 chapters was the voice of the reader "Robert Glenister", which, considering how long the narration lasts, never ceased to hold my interest. How he managed to do this is a mystery. A slightly depressing story, if you are very sensitive and when I finished listening it took a few days to stop thinking about the darker moments of the story. Impressed as I was by this fantastic actor/reader I have just ordered another Galbraith story read by him.

Wonderful from the first word to the last.

I truly marvel at the ability of this author.
There wasn't a moment in this extremely long novel that my interest flagged or dropped off. How does she do it? She's got to be one of the best modern authors.
The story was so well laid out, the characters were, lovable, hateful, funny, pathetic, but above all believable.
I can't wait for book 8.
Everything about this production was perfect.
As I have already praised the author, I must also mention the narrator.
The range of his voices and accents was incredible. You would believe there were multiple actors involved.
Brilliant all round, loved it. ❤️

The Best Yet

I have just finished listening. Since it appeared in my library on Tuesday I have had to force myself to turn it off to go to bed. No spoilers but if you are a Strike & Robin fan this is an absolute must. Robert Glenister brings Strike to life as always. Excellent all round.

Unnecessary quotations

An outstanding, if at times very disturbing story beautifully read by RobertGlenister. However I found the quotations from ‘I Ching’ at the start of every chapter unfathomable, irritating and utterly irrelevant .

Completely compelling

The complexity, timing, and teasing of the narrative is matched by Glenister’s tour de force as narrator. Bring on the next one!

Wonderfully complex - what a book!

I can honestly say it was excellent. I particularly liked Robert Glenister’s masterful style as reader.

Couldn’t stop listening!

This book is very gripping and difficult to put down from fairly early on in the story. I felt immersed in the storyline and my heart rate increased at key points in the book. A must read/ listen for Strike fans or anyone who enjoys a who done it.

Good lock in making this one a TV series. It would need 10 episodes

Loved this, so good. Didn’t want it to end, but what an end, new beginning.
