Summary
In this new novella by Richard McCrohan, novelist Jonathan York is flying back to his hometown of Hillcrest for his 50th high school reunion. He hasn’t returned since he left for college in 1971. A long weekend of old memories and rekindled friendships is what he is warmly looking forward to. And to reunite with his old crew. But what Jonathan is going to find waiting for him is a 50-year-old dark secret and a long forgotten past that threatens to rip apart the rest of his life.

"The class of 1971."
It's fifty years since novelist Jonathan York has seen any of his old high school crew.. Shortly after graduation he'd crashed his car and been unconscious, reviving only after everyone had gone their separate ways. Now he was heading back for the school's 50th reunion.
With uncomfortable undertones from the very beginning, this short story poses an emotional dilemma. Well written, it is also very nicely performed by Skyler Morgan, whose gentle timbre without any histrionics, continues this sinister theme.
My thanks to the rights holder for freely gifting me with a complimentary copy.
Quick and easy to read, and recommended.

Good, but could have been more
For disclosure I was given a copy of this to review
The story was good, the scenes were described well and put my mind properly in place of all the action, full credit to the author for that. I enjoyed the story, although it was just on the edge of thriller for me, with a little tweaking this could have leaned far more into suspense and on the verge of scary. As it was, the story just kinda unfolded, without leaving much for the listener to engage with, not a bad thing per se, but I was hoping for slightly more intrigue.
The performance was very consistent, however it took me a while to really warm to the narration, there was, for me, something slightly off with the inflections and emphasis put on certain parts of sentences, and an overemphasis on things that should have been slightly more flat. Hard to put my finger on exactly what it was, but it just didn't quite sit right with me. The narrator also used a slightly whispery, almost sensual, tone with their work, which didn't quite fit with the story itself. That said, everything was competently done and consistent throughout, and none of it was obnoxious to my ear, just not quite a 5 out of 5 for me personally.
Overall, an intriguing story and narration, that could have been excellent with just a few tweaks throughout.

Really Enjoyable Listen.
This is a very good listen, It's well paced with well developed characters throughout and an interesting plot. All but one of the gang who meet up at a 50th reunion know the secret of what happened that fateful night, the famous author who crashed his car and suffered amnesia ever since is in for a real eye opener. Highly recommended. Skyler Morgan's narration is perfect for this excellent short story.
I was kindly given a copy of the book by the narrator and leave this honest review.

Reunion
Amazing narration of Skyler Morgan, who keeps the emotions and trilling plot a joy to listen to.
Jonathan York last saw his old high school friends 50 years ago. Not long after his graduation he'd crashed his car and been unconscious. When he wakes he finds everyone had gone their separate ways. He finds himself heading back for the school's 50th reunion. But something from the past, threatens to rip apart the rest of his life.
