Summary

The Practice of the Presence of God has inspired people for generations. Brother Lawrence, also known as Nicholas Herman, was a devout French Carmelite friar of the 17th-century who’s aim in life was to simply love God with all his being and cultivate a sensitivity to the presence of God. The following audiobook is a compilation of conversations and letters by Brother Lawrence giving us insight into his personal relationship with God and his singular focus on union with the divine. The text was written over 300 years ago and later translated into English. Though some of the language may be dated, the heart of his message shines through with clarity, that the sensitivity to the presence of God in our lives and our love for Him is, and ought to be, our highest priority. Everything is second to love.

Through his teachings, we learn how we ourselves can grow and mature in conversing with God on a daily basis. The impact of this simple, yet powerful audiobook can no doubt be life transforming. I hope that as you listen you find encouragement in the power and simplicity of prayer. May you be blessed in your pursuit of God and be transformed by the freedom we have in Christ to come directly to the Father in conversation and friendship.

Review of Practicing the Presence of God narrated by Whitney Gardner

The book itself, although very well known is a MUST read (or listen) for any Christian however old you are in the faith . Short, simple, refreshing and life changing, Practicing the Presence of God is more about being rather than doing, centred around the simple but often over complicated cultivation of intimacy with the Father. I have found a new level of rest for my soul by listening to this book and it’s very well narrated by Whitney Gardner.

Great, but I'm sure there are better read versions

I loved the simplicity of this book - just a series of short letters that would be easily browsed past but that is rightly held as a spiritual classic for the wisdom and experience of the presence of God that it nudges / urges the reader to participate in. however, the recording / narrating isn't great and I found that distracting as I tried to follow the glow of the sentences and logic of the work.
