Summary
A fast-paced fantasy adventure set in a broken future England, following the further exploits of the outlaws Scarlett and Browne.
Scarlett McCain and Albert Browne have outwitted their pursuers and escaped into the wilderness once more, and it's not long before they become famous for their audacious heists across the Seven Kingdoms. Yet neither is fully able to escape the shackles of the past—as they discover when a dangerous job turns sour.
Soon old enemies and sinister new threats are pressing in on every side, and Scarlett and Browne must pull off an impossible mission and strike out against The Faith Houses and the Brothers of the Hand if they are to save the people they hold most dear.

Excellent
Jonathan Stroud never ever disappoints. Even though this particular series reminds me of 'The Crysalids' a little. The reader is also excellent.

New favourite
I absolutely love these books! I read them because I really enjoyed the story telling of Lockwood & co, so I wanted to listen to another book by Stroud. I liked these even better.
Really hope for another book in the series.

Jonathan Stroud quality
I like Jonathan Stroud and this is the same standard I have come to expect. I love his style of dialogue, the excellent description keeping pace and imagination during the action and the plot itself. every book I've listened to has been well read, with voices that match the characters and pace to match the scene. the books always leave me wanting to go to the next one. my only complaint now is that I've listened to all of them, however they are also good a second time!

such a good book, with scary bits too
I brought my children up on Lockwood &co, and they remain to this day a favorite series from Jonathan Strous. I personally found the Bartimus series difficult to get into, but again my grown up kids still love them. this series I have managed to get before my kids, now adults. i just love them. i didnt think i would ever like a character more than lucy in Lockwood, but Scarlett is catching up. And yes I know the scary bits freak me out much more than the kids, but i still love it. However, i may never go into a cave again in my life.

Loved this sequel
Excellent story telling. The audio quality was off in places and you could hear background noise.

Stroud at is usual brilliant self
Loved this book. I haven’t been so involved in a book for ages, invested in the characters and world he created. It is a brutal world, scary in bits and complex with the history dripped to the reader slowly through the book. A lovely balance between the predictable and quirky. The characters are warm, three dimensional and champions for all who don't fit into a mould .
I was worried reading the other review that they might have changed the narrator from the first book but it’s the same one. Not distinctive character voices but a nice pace and intonation through out. A very nice listen. Can’t wait for the next in the series.

Jonathan please change your audiobook publishers
I have no idea why any publisher should produce an audiobook without reading the book.
After the brilliant Steven Pacey’s narration of the Bartimaeus trilogy and Katie Lyons Lockwood series why chose a 6 year old voice for this book.
This story has a pretty grim start but told in twee sugary sweet tone its just wrong.
There is nothing wrong with the narrator its just that she’s the wrong narrator.
I hung on for a couple of chapters but am now going to try to return this book. I will buy the kindle version instead and get a computer chip to read it. The problem with a childish voice is that is can come across as condescending and even slightly sinister as per Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter.
