About this listen
The love story to end all love stories from the internationally best-selling author Nicholas Sparks. Now a major motion picture starring Ryan Gosling (Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated star of La La Land) and Rachel McAdams.
How far can love endure?
Noah Calhoun has just returned from World War Two. Attempting to escape the ghosts of battle, he tries to concentrate on restoring an old plantation home to its former glory. And yet he is haunted by images of the beautiful girl he met there 14 years before, a girl who captured his heart like no other.
But when these distant memories begin to slide into reality, the passion that had lain still is ignited once more. Though so much is in their way, the miraculous force of their love refuses to fade.

Lovely lovely lovely
Thoroughly enjoyed the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Very rare for a film to live up to the book. Great and highly recommended.
The audio is a little quiet so had to turn the volume up. The musical interludes were a nice touch.

Needs Context
So when first listening to The Notebook I found myself wanting more, thinking admittedly that the film is better than the book in this case. However after listening to the Q&A with Nicholas Sparks at the end I understood why I was left wanting more. I enjoy long books, when I used to read I’d always reach for the chunkiest books I could find or the books that were in a long series as I love deep dives, however, in absolute fairness to Nicholas Sparks and The Notebook it is not supposed to be a deep dive or a long read it was written so it would be finished in a few sittings rather than having yourself getting lost in pages for days or having to come back to it several times. So for that I don’t think my initial judgement of The Notebook was at all fair to Nicholas Sparks. It was a brilliant book and laid the foundations for a fantastic film. So if you find yourself yearning for more either give it another listen/read, pick up another Nicholas Sparks book or watch the film.

Sheer Indulgence
Having seen the film and eaten at High Cotton, while visiting Charleston, the restaurant that features without even realising its claim to fame, I emersed myself in this book and enjoyed every moment. it was nice that, having been to the area, I was able to imagine the ambience. Charleston is a wonderful place full of charm that compliments the charm of this author. I absolutely recommend this listen, it's a short story and a lovely one too.
