Summary

Breanna Perry has met some interesting people in her time as a psychiatrist for San Quentin. There was the guy who ate his mother for Christmas or the postal carrier who claimed Jesus told him to put ricin in the fashion magazines he delivered. However, nothing prepared her for Cassius Teran.

Named for one of the conspirators against Julius Caesar, Cassius believes he’s no longer human. Of course, the world isn’t ready for people who think they have special abilities, and Breanna is now tasked with curing Cassius of his delusions before he winds up in San Quentin forever.

However, when a strange man starts following Breanna, she has to face the reality that the world might be a bit more complicated than she originally thought, and under the moonlight, strange and wonderful creatures lurk in the shadows.

Another ML Hamilton/Kelley Hazen Win!

What an intriguing book! ML Hamilton has written books which are mysteries and she has written books which have paranormal elements. This book is a marriage of the two and it works!

Breanna Perry is a psychiatrist who works at a hospital and meets with some patients at the San Quentin jail. On her way back from one such meeting, she gets into a terrible accident. She isn't going to survive, that is, until she is visited by a mysterious man who offers her a chance to live. What he conveniently forgets to mention are the odd side effects which leaves Breanna alone and a little terrified about what she has become.

This is a fantastic start to the series. I don't want to share too much but I will say this. As usual, ML Hamilton has created a wonderful plethora of characters who bring comic relief, drama, and side stories to the main plot. The main plot promises to be interesting, intriguing and exciting with so much potential. I cannot wait for more!

Kelley Hazen is a master narrator. She performs the books with panache; It feels as though she has carefully considered each character in exquisite detail before giving them a voice. The ML Hamilton/Kelley Hazen team is a winning combination (Quite literally with their recent award for another audiobook).

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
