Summary

One fine autumn evening, Anna returns from work and starts making dinner, eager to welcome home her husband, Mark. It's just like any other day in their ten-year, Pinterest-perfect marriage—until he says he's leaving her.

Discovering that the man she thought she knew better than anyone else is capable of abandoning it all sends Anna reeling. She believed the life they'd built together—and the bright future they'd imagined—counted for everything. How can he walk away?

The truth is Mark is battling secrets of his own—secrets Anna knows nothing about. A painful past and an uncertain future threaten to bring his life down around him—and he'll do anything not to expose her to that.

But unravelling the past is lonelier than Mark could ever have imagined and, as the days turn to months, Anna worries the separation will break them forever. Can she bring him back from the brink of self-destruction before it's too late, or will she discover that she never really knew him at all?

Not the best narration

I struggled to finish this book as the female narrator read too fast and her way of speaking was very annoying, putting emphasis in the wrong areas and lack of it where it was needed. A different narrator would have made all the difference. Will avoid any other books read by Heather Wilds.

Good story but not read well

I felt that the reading didn't really convey the emotions of the story. Sentences mingled into one and sounded very drab. It was a shame really because the story itself was excellent.

Good story irritating narration

I enjoyed the story and I liked the characters but the lady narrator sounded like she was reading the news. The strange inflection in her voice was hard to ignore.

Lovely

This is the first book I had read by Leah Mercer and it won't be the last! I really loved this book, a sad but powerful story though two perspectives.
Every Time I thought I knew what was going to happen, it was not as it seemed which made for interesting reading.

A must read!!!!

Story was ok

The story was ok but the narration was terrible. The mans part was ok but the woman was awful. The most strange internation and boring drone, no feeling for the story. Nearly gave up on the book as it got on my nerves but listened to the end as the story was ok.

Felt obliged to listen to the end

The readers on this book are robots, and I persevered for a couple of hours before I decided I had a big choice to make. In terms of the reading, it was horrendous. This will probably have impacted my enjoyment of the story, characters, etc.
I listened to the end, on principal. The story aggravated me. I struggle to accept that people could behave in such a way, even in such circumstances. No spoiler alerts, but it certainly kept me involved to the end.

Awful narration

12mins in and returning. Couldn't even get as far as listening to male narrator as female like a robot voice over. Sounds like reading a cheap sat nav!!!
