Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of The Little Town of Marrowville written and read by John Robertson.

In a town surrounded by deadly mist, and filled with oddities, two young siblings become orphans.

And that's the best thing that's happened to them all day.

Howard Howard was a Wrecker (a brute and bully by profession) who was brutal and bullish to his children - Aubrey and Aubrey's Sister. Howard Howard deserved to be turned into mince, and thanks to a mysterious duo called The Grinders, that's exactly what happened to Howard Howard.

Hunted by the police and their father's gang of Wreckers, the siblings find some new friends to help keep them safe: a talented burglar named Charlie (who has no bones, but a great moustache) and a sword-wielding assassin named Calo (who has a sword, duh.)

In a town already revelling in its own chaos and with new dangers around every corner, Aubrey's Sister and Aubrey stumble into a world of secrets, myths and monsters.

A Series of Unfortunate Events meets Pratchett

Honestly, just a superb tale, both for adults and children. I wish I'd had this as a kid, it would have been right at home alongside ASoUE!

Also, the experience is greatly enhanced by John's narration, the timing and atmosphere projected by him is impeccable, not to mention the superb accents and voices

All in all, a fantastic experience, I sincerely hope for a sequel!!

Finger licking good.

This book is taking me back to being a kid reading Roald Dahl books except I no longer read books as they seem to read themselves now. Anyway. It's brilliant and makes me feel like a kid again.

Narrated great by the author, brings the characters to life. A good book regardless of age.

Superb

Absolutely superb. John Robertson's story is great, a real Roald Dahl style mash up of grusomeness and extreme violence, interlaced with fart jokes and a wonderfully developed narrative. Bought the book for my Nephew (he loves it), picked up the audio for me, No regrets!

Buy my popular fish!

I couldn't decide whether to get the audiobook or the kindle book then I thought to myself "why don't we have both!"
So as a 37 year old man I was a bit dubious about downloading a book aimed for a younger audience, however I am a fan of John's work and humour so I pre-ordered and waited in anticipation.
The day arrived and I had a long drive so had the audiobook on....hilarious, John's voices are great, and the story is appealing to all ages (with the exception of new borns and extremely aged pensioners, or a combination of both) I mean who wouldn't enjoy a book where one of the characters is a naked fish slinger, and there's a fog in the sky containing razor blades?!?

Looking forward to more.

Insanely original and epic

I've just finished listening to this book and I'm already foaming at the mouth ready for the next book. It was very well written and narrated by John.

Nothing in this story was predictable, it just keep you guessing what the hell was going on and left you wanting more.

Great story and narrator

Great book for kids and adults alike. Absurd and fantastical as a Dahl or Pratchett novel with the narrative style of a Gaiman story. Lots of silly asides and tangents woven wonderfully around a plot about the adventures of two children. Read by the author, a great performance of silly voices and the right flow to the narration.
