Summary

Not every danger comes in the form of a mega-threat like a Titan. Some predators are a lot cozier...more personal.

When one such creature threatens an independent tutor, Harry Dresden must shake off the blood and dirt of his most recent battles and rise to the occasion, even when it turns out that the new predator is far more dangerous and connected than first appearances would suggest.

A solid story, surprisingly well read

I was surprised when I found out Jim Butcher read it himself and to be honest, he did really well at it. The only issues I had were tones and accents that sounded off when compared to Marsters' fantastic performances but it's unfair to compare the two. As for the story itself, it's solid. There were a few things that felt out of place at times, maybe repeated too often or the like, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Not the new best book in the series but certainly worth listening to.

Solid entry

A great story, a good look into Chicago and her recovery post-BG, the performance was great and fun, you could really hear Jim enjoying his characters and honestly it's interesting to hear how he imagines them sounding. Great book!

Loved every minute

Great to get a Dresden Fix before the next book and really cool to hear it in Jim's voice

Fantastic little side quest of Mr Dresden by Jim Butcher

I was holding off listening to this until I finished reading Battle Grounds and I'm glad I did and I recommend if you haven't read or listen to Battle Grounds do it! I'll look forward to the next Audible entry by Jim for Harry!

Enjoyable Dresden short story

A short story featuring a damsel in distress where Dresden’s “blow things up” strategy is not wise. A tangle with mortal law and a lawyer who Harry isn’t able to sway. Of course things soon get complicated for our would-be hero and of course’s family John Marcone makes an appearance.
It’s read by Jim Butcher himself as a personal romp through one of his own stories. We get to hear his version of Harry and Bob’s voices, as well as that of the Queen of Air and Darkness. While we doubtless all prefer James Marsters to be the main reader, this made an interesting change. Well done to Jim for giving it a go and letting us hear the voices in his head.

Brilliant

Loved this short story! You felt the sadness for those lost in the last book but also the old magic was definitely back

nice story, a bit lacking

it may be that I am so used to James Marsden being the voice of the series, but Jim's rendition is passable but a little lacking.

the story itself is short, easy to follow, and a nice break in between the more chicago ending stakes of the normal novels.

I did feel that Harry was a little out of character in some parts, but I suppose several battles, significant losses, and ongoing changes in his arc are making him into a different character.

either way I'm excited for the next novel.

Brilliant!

A lot of fun this one and for Harry,a getting back to basics again on the mean streets of Chicago. more than amply read by the man himself, a nice treat after the hell and fury of Battleground.

Short And Sweet

The Law was a short listen but a good fix to keep me going to the next Dresden adventure

While I found it odd without James Marsters, I think Jim Butcher done a wonderful job narrating it
