About this listen

The must-listen gothic thriller of 2021.

This is the story of a murderer. A stolen child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted, who lives with his daughter, Lauren, and his cat, Olivia, in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street.

All these things are true. And yet some of them are lies.

You think you know what's inside the last house on Needless Street. You think you've come across this story before. In the dark forest at the end of Needless Street, something lies buried. But it's not what you think....

Compelling, mystery, knowledge

Was a bit confused to begin with, then started to understand. So beautifully crafted and when you think you know...
Very interesting to understand DID, specially in audiobook versión makes it so real, like being on the head and thoughts and feelings of that person, or many persons...
Very worth the listen, very well researched and written

Dark, disturbing, but un-put-down-able

This is a dark read, with some uncomfortable passages, but it's worth it to follow the twists and turns of the characters. You know there's a reveal coming, and when it finally unfolds it is done with great skill.
The narrator is also exceptional, keeping the story going at pace and with finesse.

More psychological thriller than gothic horror

I have no idea why this has been marketed as gothic horror. 😂

I fancied a change in genre and saw a brief write up about gothic horror being the new ‘’in thing’ and after enjoying Netflix series such as the haunting of hill house/Bly manor, I thought that’s what I’d be in for. This is definitely not that.

I kind of guessed what was going on fairly early on but still found it compelling. Finished it in two sittings and it kept my interest. I didn’t read any reviews before I read it and I’m glad I didn’t, the poor reviews definitely would have put me off. Definitely worth a read.

Gripping tale of survival in small town America.

At first I thought this was too dark but it us shot through with simple pleasures. It's a tale of survival cut through with loss. Very well narrated and the plot and style suits an audio book. Really enjoyed it.

5 star thriller, 1 star audiobook

I loved Catriona Ward's previous work, Little Eve. This is even better. An utterly gripping dark thriller that unwinds with wonderful complexity. Ward could well be the next Gillian Flynn (although for my money Ward is the better writer) . Such a shame the audiobook version was marred by such an irritating narrator. I gave up and ordered the book.
