Summary
Paul could be at any normal school - bullies, girls and annoying teachers are just part of life. Unfortunately 'normal' doesn't apply when it comes to the school's most evil bully, Roth, a twisted thug with an agenda quite unlike anyone else. When Paul delivers a message from Roth to the leader of a gang at a nearby school, it fuels a terrible rivalry. Paul attempts to distance himself from the feud, but then Roth hands him a knife....
A tense, chilling novel for older children about the terrible consequences of peer pressure and violence.

Sharp Eye for Detail
Will Thorp's rendition of Anthony McGowen's 'The Knife that Killed Me' had me hooked from the very start. His clear characterisation and use of the Leeds acccent gave us a strong sense of location, and he was able to maintain the tension throughout. As a teacher in a boys school I was able to immediately recognise and empathise with the protagonist and the impossible position he puts himself in. McGowan is able to speak clearly through the voice of his young anti hero and draws his audience in with creativity and skill. As he unviels this tale he does not patronise or condescend and Thorp's colourful vocal dexterity creates for us the listener a perfect marriage. This is a Young Adult book, written for young teenagers but I would recommend this audio book to anyone who works or lives in an urban environment or who has contact of any kind with young people. I ususally listen to my audio book in the car, but when I reached my destination I was so gripped by this story that I had to stay in the car to hear it's dynamic conclusion. More of the same please!
