Summary

The Bonneville Hotel is the best-kept secret in Mayfair: its art deco suites and glittering ballrooms a former home-away-from-home for royalty and movie stars alike. Recent years haven’t been kind, but thanks to events manager Rosie, the Bonneville is reclaiming some of its old cachet as a chic retro-glam wedding venue.

While Rosie’s weddings are the ultimate in romance, Rosie herself isn’t; she’s focused on the details, not the dramas. But when the hotel owner appoints his eccentric son Joe to the Bonneville staff, Rosie finds herself up against an unprecedented challenge: a rival whose predilection for the unconventional could derail not only Rosie’s own career, but the most elaborate, high-profile wedding the Bonneville has ever seen.

A bit too long and pedestrian narration

The story could have been told in a shorter time, it felt as if it would never get where it was obviously going. The narration was so disappointing. It was ‘read aloud’ rather than performed, which meant the characters weren’t brought to life. All characters, whether male or female, English or Welsh, were read with the same voice so it was confusing at times to know who was speaking to whom. I will avoid books with the same narrator in future.

Keeps you listening

Just a sweet little story about weddings and a wedding planner in a vintage style hotel, not too much happens, I like it. Excellent narration. One to listen to over and over occasionally, comforting like a cosy pair of warm socks.

Extremely predictable but exquisite detail

The story was extremely predictable, it would be nice to have chick lit which didn't feature a romance for the heroine, just a happy healthy relationship in the background. However the descriptions of the setting were exquisite and the characters very funny and relatable. The performance was also wonderful, the perfect voice for the story.

Very enjoyable light reading

What did you like most about The Honeymoon Hotel?

The story, the description of the Hotel and the events.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Joe, because he felt funny and down to earth.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The female/male voices. Most of the times the dialogs with the two main characters were a bit confusing.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This book isn't meant to move, it serves to relax.

Any additional comments?

I truly enjoy some light reading and if you like a good feel good book, go for it.

This was enjoyable

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Rosie's realisation in the ballroom after the New Year's Eve party - quite magical

Just what we need to brighten our summer.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Honeymoon Hotel to be better than the print version?

As I have only listened to this book I cannot say. Audio books let me absorb books I wouldn't get round to reading.

What did you like best about this story?

The gentle rhythm of the words made listening a form of relaxation. Yes the book was exciting and dramatic in places but it didn't jar or fling things at you for effect.

What about Jessica Anne Ball’s performance did you like?

Clear, crisp, lovely tone. perfect for this book.

Intelligent romance!

Well written, kept me entertained whilst pottering about and relaxing to potential before going to sleep. Good pace - the story kept moving, the characters were believable and there was lots of humour. The narrator was a great choice.
