Pam St Clement
About this listen
In January 2012, one of EastEnders' longest-serving and best-loved characters breathed her last when Pat Butcher succumbed to cancer. Her departure from the show gave actress Pam St Clement time to reflect, not only on almost 26 years playing a role that she loved, but also on her whole life.
Pam's mother died when she was a baby, leaving her with a father whose life didn't really have space for a child. What followed was an itinerant childhood, with various stepmothers and foster families, before an advertisement in The Lady took 11-year-old Pamela to the farm in Devon that was to become her true home, with the 'aunts' who became her surrogate parents. Time on the farm at Dartmoor, where she discovered her love of animals, alternated with life at The Warren boarding school in West Sussex, where she discovered her passion for acting.
On leaving school, Pam was unsure of what direction to take but gradually realised that acting was what she wanted to do with her life. So, in 1966, Pam took up a place at drama school. Pam settled in London and worked on stage and television throughout the sixties and seventies, before her first appearance on EastEnders in 1986 and the offer of a permanent role a few months later.
This memoir is far more than simply an actor's tale. Quite apart from her fascinating and unique childhood, Pam also recalls her involvement in the women's movement of the 1970s, her lifelong love of animals and the worries about her weight that have dogged her since her teenage years. It is also a tribute to Pat Butcher, for whom Pam retains a huge affection.
This incredibly warm memoir reveals the woman behind the popular EastEnders' character, a woman who, apart perhaps from her earrings, couldn't be more different from Pat.

A pleasurable and informative listen
This was such a pleasure to listen to, especially since it was narrated by the author herself. Whether or not you’re an Eastender fan, or “Enders” as Pam puts it, there’s plenty to enjoy on this book. Pam takes her through events in her childhood to the end of an earring, and it’s a lovely journey to take. Get I. The passenger seat and let her drive you.

Interesting listen
I'm very amazed by pats story as a big fan of eastenders I can relate to a lot of it. I'm shocked at her life in the beginning and her relationship with her dad and feel very sorry for her as she lost her mother so young every child needs a mother and father, I'm not surprised how she was in her teens I was the same too, this is a very good biography I recommend this to any one who loves eastenders and anyone who is fascinated by pat and her character. I may do this book again.

The story of a Legend
An emotional and thoughtful walk through Pam St. Clement’s life. I bought this audio book wanting to learn more about the character of “Pat” but was surprised to hear a lot more.
Especially enjoyed her self written monologue at the end and her adventures around the world.

I was intrigued when I saw online that Pam was bisexual, and delighted to learn about her life. Her love of animals and experiences growing up. it's the first biography I've ever listened to. I loved it and it even kept me calm during a toe operation!!! highly recommend this!!

This was a really lovely story. It made me laugh and cry all the way through. And it was so nice to be read by Pam herself.

Surprisingly good and easy to listen to
Not an enders fan but a really good book and told well ,more autobiographical books should be narrated by author,if they cannot be bothered to narrate it why should I listen to it!
