Summary

Do you find the workload of teaching unmanageable, and feel you can never turn it off and enjoy your free time? Do you have classes whose behavior you can't seem to get in check, no matter how strict you act? At assessment time, are you aghast as your students have seemingly forgotten everything you have taught them? When someone says “the Sunday scaries,” do you know exactly what they mean? Well, then, keep reading.

Sadly, almost half of all teachers will leave the profession within the first five years, overwhelmingly due to the reasons above. Many new teachers, once out of teacher training college, while armed with theories in pedagogy, leave without any working strategies and are left to improvise and learn the painful way through trial and error.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

When done correctly, teaching is a rewarding, enriching, and fun experience, while when done badly, it’s a soul destroyer. The good news is that the best has already cracked the code of effective happy teaching.

In this step-by-step guide, Malcolm Finney condenses 14 years of teaching experience and the hundreds of different techniques and strategies into the easiest implemented, most effective ones that will quickly get any new (or old) teacher up to the task of the very rewarding world of teaching.

In this book, you will discover how to:

  • Manage your workload and enjoy your free time.
  • Turn your classroom into a positive learning environment.
  • Teach your students in a way that makes knowledge stick.

There is no magic to it. All successful teachers have learned these things one way or another to ensure a sustained teaching career. Some, like Malcolm, learned the hard way. Others listened to the best and got their happy place without the pain. Malcolm Finney invites you to learn the lessons from his mistakes and successes, so you don’t have to. Once you have nailed the basics with this book, you will be free to develop your practice from an effective happy place.

A Teacher's Heart

Malcolm Finney's "The Effective Happy Teacher" is a beacon of guidance for educators seeking positivity and productivity in their classrooms. In the personalized world of Chapter Two, "Classroom Management," Finney's wisdom resonated deeply with a recent experience of mine. Navigating the delicate balance of maintaining discipline while fostering a positive atmosphere, I found solace in Finney's anecdotes and strategies. The audiobook became a companion in my journey to create a classroom where students thrive, drawing inspiration from Finney's practical advice. The resonance between his words and my own struggles added a sentimental layer to the learning process, making "The Effective Happy Teacher" not just a guidebook but a heartfelt conversation with a mentor.

Great information to help my wife as a new teacher

Great information from start to finish to help my wife gain the confidence and experience from the author she wanted as a newly qualified teacher. She found great experience throughout the audio but found the chapter on lesson planning and delivery particularly helpful as she is in her first year and desperately needed some experience to help her manage all the new elements to her role. She feels more upbeat about providing a classroom with a happier teacher which will hopefully resonate throughout her career - thank you to the author!

loved this!

This book really embodies everything a teacher would want to have. I have had very great experiences with some of my teachers, but I also had very bad experiences with others. Many people neglect how important the role of a teacher is, since many young kids look up to their instructors and absorb so much from them. This guide will break down a lot of important points, such as how to nourish a positive classroom environments, how to structure your lessons so that students remain engaged throughout the lecture and also how to better manage your workload. This inspired me a lot
