About this listen
Alexander Sinclair, Fourth Earl of Falmouth, has a reputation for rebelling in vice. Wine, women, and gambling are only one side of this dangerous man, for the earl has a second life, leading a criminal gang, smuggling contraband between France and Cornwall. Seeking ever more risk, Alexander often leads his men on their nighttime missions. One unlucky night the revenue men appear, and the smugglers sail into a violent storm in an effort to escape, but the ship and all aboard go down. Barely alive, Alexander washes ashore on the coast of France.
Enter innocent beauty Celestine Lavelle, the daughter of a noble French family forced to flee their estate during the revolution. Having lost everything, she must work in the kitchens of a coastal brothel. Desperate and alone, her future is besieged by sin.
The discovery of a half-drowned English smuggler on the shore will lead her heart in directions she never dreamed of.
Alexander determines to save his beguiling rescuer. He plans her future should be full of everything that is good and honourable...but will the temptation to take her as his own be too hard to resist?
Contains mild swearing and mildly graphic and descriptive sex scenes - not erotica.

Emotional rollercoaster, not to be missed!
I have read and listened to hundreds of Regency Romance novels over the years, but this really blew me away! I somehow became emotionally invested in the emotional rollercoaster that this book became. I think this was due in large to the excellent writing and the superb narration. But I laughed, I cried and was blown away, by how deeply emotional this was. For any lover of Regency Romance, this is one of the best credits you will spend!!

A love story for the ages
I loved the portrayal of Alex's determination to save Celeste from himself and his wickedness even though she makes it very clear that it is he that she wants. The angst suffered by both of the main characters is, at times, nearly overwhelming and most certainly palpable. It never gives the impression that it will not, ultimately, be overcome. Yet another fantastic read...or in my case listen from Emma V. Leech

loved it
Loved every second of it, I couldn't stop listening. Alex was so funny he made me laugh, he was too honorable and stubborn, but I loved him and he is now one of my favourite heros. And Celeste was adorable I felt so sorry for her as she loved him so much and he loved her, but he thought he was too old for her.
I cried with sadness and with happiness.
The end was so lovely. It was such a beautiful story.
The narrator Philip Battley was absolutely brilliant. I will definitely be listening to the rest of the series.
And to all historical romances narrated by him, he has become my number one narrator.
It's so nice to have such a great combination, a lovely story and a fabulous narrator, it couldn't get any better.

From the surreal to the ridiculous
His brother was a notorious pirate, he's is a titled gentleman but an infamous smuggler.
The Heroine is a deposed French Dukess who was working in a brothel.
The ex-mistress comes knocking on the door late at night, but it is not her reputation at stake but the well-respected lady. The so-called soulless Earl is easily blackmailed and so the story drags on and on getting more ridiculous.
