Summary

The Assassin - the world’s most successful contract killer. Ice cool, accurate, and elusive. An anonymous professional with a unique calling card - one bullet in the head and one in the chest for each of his targets.

An ex-member of the SAS, Mike Cramer is the perfect sacrificial bait. When the FBI discover the next name on the assassin’s hit list, Cramer is set up to take his place. But Cramer’s past has caught up with him. Ex-IRA extremist Dermot Lynch blames Cramer for his lover’s death, and he’s out for revenge. As Cramer trains for the most dangerous mission in his career, Lynch hunts down his sworn enemy. And the unknown assassin silently closes in on his target. The players are in position for the final, deadly game….

Narrator pronunciation

Where does The Double Tap rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is pure Stephen Leather

What other book might you compare The Double Tap to, and why?

Similar to The Long Shot which is the first of the two Mike Cramer stories with multiple related strands

Which character – as performed by Martyn Read – was your favourite?

Mike Cramer

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Apart from the thought of listening for 17 hours, yes it was hard to take a break

Any additional comments?

The only irritation to the otherwise skilful narration was Martyn Read's pronunciation of Quantico as Kwanteeeco rather than KWONtico (like Americans) and Miami as Meeami rather than My-ami.
The latter is from a native Indian word and Americans pronounce it My-ami.

Rivetting. Brilliant story, excellently read.

The series of 3 books are all brilliant. The Chinaman is one of the best books (and films) I've read in a long time.

Another Leather good read

Really enjoyed this final instalment of Mike. Well read and a good story. If you’ve read the chinaman you’ll enjoy this.

Most annoying Narrator

Would you try another book written by Stephen Leather or narrated by Martyn Read?

I really like Stephen Leather and have 16 of his books in my library, the stories are enthralling and exciting with great twists and turns but this narrator Martyn Ready has ruined the last two books with the ridiculous attempts at accents.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

With his rediculas unrealistic accents , in this book the Irish sound more akin to West Country accents, and has made Mike Cramer sound more like a geek than a trained SAS soldier

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Great story

Any additional comments?

STOP USING THIS NARRATOR !!!

Appalling narration ruins it totally!

Sadly, Stephen Leather changed the narrator for the 2nd and 3rd in this series and absolutely ruined it! The Chinaman narrated by Russell Boulter was superb, complete with great accents for both male and female. However Martyn Read's narration is so dreadful and completely takes you away from the story!

I have well over 1000 audiobooks in my collection and know only too well how poor narration can ruin a book for the listener.

I shall return this book as unlistenable because of Martyn Read's narration.

Appalling narrator

I am an avid audible fan and have enjoyed several Stephen Leather stories narrated by Paul Thornley. This narration by Martyn Read was so bad I couldn't carry on listening. It was his attempt at an Irish or American accent which really grated - a great shame because it might have been a good story.

If you're looking through the list of Stephen Leather stories don't choose one read by Maryn Read.

The narrator made a difficult listen

Good author, poorly narrated, accents & pause points all over the place, in books 2 & 3
