About this listen

"When the film begins, she has no idea what she is about to see. Nor does she realize what devastating consequences this film and the decisions she then makes will have on the rest of her life."

The body of a young woman is found carved up and buried in a forest glade in an innocuous Swedish suburb. Alex Recht and his team in the Stockholm Police soon identify the body as belonging to missing student Rebecca Trolle, but as his team continues to excavate the site, they soon find that someone has been returning to the same spot to bury their victims year after year, decade after decade.

Investigative Analyst Fredrika Bergman is assigned the task of delving into Rebecca's private life. But little does she know that her enquiries are about to uncover evidence that will put her actions under scrutiny from Internal Affairs and will throw her private life into turmoil.

And what does the case have to do with the elderly children's author living in a care home...who has never spoken a word to anyone since she arrived years ago?

Kristina Ohlsson has already sold more than 830,000 copies worldwide. Now discover for yourself what makes her Sweden's favourite crime writer.

A SLIGHTLY UNSATISFACTORY LISTEN

I found the overall storyline a little unbelievable, it stretched the boundaries of what I could accept. The lead female character and the fact that she withheld vital information as it involved her partner, and the lies that she told at the end of the book in order to gain a confession, were a bit silly. The Narrator was at times so annoying. Why she had to have the characters speak in such a drawn out and hesitant manner, almost as if they had speech impediments; is beyond me. I almost gave up on the book for this reason alone. If I had listened to an audio sample before purchasing, I should never have added it to my collection. Disappointing and annoying. This is the first time that I have felt it necessary to submit a poor review.

Good but over long

Would you try another book written by Kristina Ohlsson or narrated by Maggie Mash?

Maybe

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It was a good story but at 16 hours I found it a bit over long and could have been much shorter in length

What about Maggie Mash’s performance did you like?

Well read by Maggie

Did The Disappeared inspire you to do anything?

Yes Might not get such large audio books!!

Narration spoiled this read

Found I could not concentrate on storyline due to the awful narration. The attempt at giving characters different voices failed, just a grating, raspy sound. Sorry to sound negative but I found it too embarrassing to listen to.

Excellent story

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel, but didn’t particularly like the narration - it took quite a while to get accustomed to her voice characterisations, and those of majority of the female characters were especially grating. But the story itself was excellent.

Poor naration

How could the performance have been better?

Didn't get more than a couple of hours into the story because the narrator was awful. The characters voices were dreadful, made them all sound stupid. Will make a point of avoiding this narrator in future.
