Summary
Stephen King's epic fantasy series, The Dark Tower, is being made into a major movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Due in cinemas February 17, 2017 USA.
The pivotal sixth instalment in King's best-selling epic fantasy saga provides the key to the quest that defines Roland's life.
In the next part of their journey to the tower, Roland and his band of followers face adversity from every side: Susannah Dean has been taken over by a demon-mother and uses the power of Black Thirteen to get from the Mid-World New York City. But who is the father of her child? And what role will the Crimson King play?
Roland sends Jake to break Susannah's date with destiny, while he himself uses 'the persistence of magic' to get to Maine in the Summer of 1977. It is a terrible world: for one thing it is real and bullets are flying. For another, it is inhabited by the author of a novel called Salem's Lot.
Song of Susannah is driven by revelation and by suspense. It continues The Dark Tower series seamlessly from Wolves of the Calla and the dramatic climax will leave listeners desperate to read the quest's conclusion.

A wonderful sub-chapter
I read this book ~10 years ago and my memory was coloured by subsequent reviews that I read - saying this book is redundant, unnecessary as a standalone, all middle with no beginning or end, and so on. It's all nonsense. I appreciated this book SO much when listening for my second go-around. Susannah gets much needed air time and really develops as a character in a way that she is unable to in Roland's shadow. Moreover, this book utterly changes the pace, setting and atmosphere compared with Wolves of the Calla, introducing many concepts that become vital to the final volume. The narration is awesome too. Another fantastic book in a genuinely epic series.

Master of his craft gets a little self indulgent
As my title states, I did thoroughly enjoy this chapter, but Mr King does stray off his normally perfect road of story telling onto a couple of shady avenues of self indulgance. All the same it is still an enthralling listen and an essential part of the epic Dark Tower.

Better than first reading if possible
I had missed so much from this book on my first reading probably in my eagerness to reach the last instalment The Dark Tower. It is a great continuation and is well read and acted by the narrator giving life and character to the stories cast. Onward to the final instalment. Be true

good, but not the best.
Song of Susannah, was good but unfortunately probably the weakest in the series. I am looking forward to seeing how the story ends.

Blurs the line between fiction and reality
I first read this book a decade or so earlier and don’t remember being as impressed. Strange. I’m working through the audio books this time round - they are fantastic. The struggle between Susannah and Mia is a nice development and lends weight to the ‘plot’ (sorry SK), but the introduction of the author himself to the storyline is pure genius, and what a way to end the book!

Great Read(listen)
I'd read a few really bad reviews about this book, with many claiming it was the weakest in the DT series. It might be, but it's still strong and I enjoyed it a lot.
