Summary

It starts with just one body - tortured, mummified and then discarded. Its discovery reveals a nightmare world of hidden lives. Of lost identities, secret rituals and brutal exploitation, where nobody can be trusted. This is the darkest, most complex case the police have ever seen. This is the world of the Crow Girl.

A lot of twists

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this book. It was definitely good, but was a very depressing read. The ending had maybe a little ray of hope, but otherwise it was something of a parade of unhappy, despicable and/or broken people. I agree with another reviewer who said it can be hard to tell the viewpoints apart - very true, although some of that is probably intentional.

So... yeah... A good book but not one you'll want to read again!

So Disappointed To Find There Were No Others By This Author.

I was really disappointed to find that there were no others by this author.
Lots of interest here, even though the book was not a short one.
It was well read.
I look forward to another.

As Dark As It Gets

I like Nordic Noir and this is probably the darkest and most depressing story in the genre.

Unlike other Scandinavian crime stories, there is no politics involved; just a relentless journey into the dark receceses of humanity.

The provison of confidential information by a Police Officer to a psychologist is unlikely and a flaw in the story.

It was nonetheless compelling with a brilliant narration.which held my attention through many a long dog walk .

Clever but Overlong

What did you like best about The Crow Girl? What did you like least?

The basic plot idea and how the main protagonists were introduced was well done. However the link between the lead detective, her family and the Crow Girl was a bit far fetched. The detective, who is supposed to be brilliant was very easily sidetracked. Also the while book needed better editing - far too much cod philosophy and unnecessary detail.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

From the story line you just new that was going to be the ending.

What aspect of Gabrielle Glaisters’s performance might you have changed?

I found the speed of reading a tad too slow for my taste. Also why the long gaps between sentences?

Did The Crow Girl inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

I sort of enjoyed it, but it really needed to be edited down.

Good story, poor Swedish.

I enjoyed listening to this book even though it's a grim story. The naration was very good but spoiled by terrible pronunciation of Swedish place names the whole way through. Absolutely no effort had been made to try to learn the correct pronunciation. Even Gothenburg was pronounced incorrectly and that's the English name for the city.

Very worthwhile

A very long and complicated listen but worthwhile. Clear narration. Interesting twists. Needs some concentration.

Gross

Unnecessarily long, convoluted and repugnant in terms to graphically described depravity . Less would have been more in every respect.

My god!

As a father of three young girls this was a very difficult book to listen too, but if we hide from subject matter like this it will never be stopped, it can never be understood how men can be like this!

Once I got over the shock of the graphic description and started to feel as "I" being a man am not guilty for these men but am in small part a victim of there actions

People can say killing them is too good for them and I would agree but the organisations that I'm sure exist that profit in this have there own place in hell

To fix this I have no clue, maybe one! Save the young

The in-depth description of one of the lead characters insanity is so well written, you feel insane, I commend the author for writing about and being as brutal as they were...

I'm glad I finished it but I would not listen again because the subject matter is so cutting! I truly got the fear of the dark

Well done!

Narrators delivery was really good and it must of been tough!
