Summary
'All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players....'
When an undercover assignment for the Bow Street magistrate sees prostitute Lizzie Hardwicke trade Ma Farley’s Bawdy House in Soho for life as a seamstress at the theatre on Drury Lane, it becomes clear quite quickly - what goes on in the wings is much more intriguing than the theatrics being played out onstage....
Soon Lizzie is once again thrown together with the handsome Inspector Will Davenport when a high profile investor is brutally hanged at centre stage and Lizzie discovers the body. With the suspect list rivalling any casting call, Lizzie will have to use every trick she’s hidden up her sleeves to unravel the tangled threads and bring the culprit into the spotlight.

Absolutely Brilliant.
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to both this book and the first of the series, 'Death and the Harlot'. The protagonist Lizzie Hardwicke is quickly becoming one of my favourte literary characters, she's witty, clever and altogether fascinating. The story is gripping and moving and not at all predictable. And the dynamic between Lizzie and Davenport is so perfectly written, I can't wait for the third in the series! I also loved both the performances of the narration, they tell the story so well. I 100% reccomend. Well done and thank you Georgina Clarke!

Love Lizzie
Well, I really have found my new favourite book series. Lizzie is a brilliant character, intelligent by nature and nurture in a poor life of circumstance but what a world she thrives in.
Characters, story and performance are fantastic, if you love a period setting, crime ‘who dunnit’ with a twist of good humour, you’re going to love these books.
I wholeheartedly highly recommend.

Another wonderful story
I read this straight after book one which I also really enjoyed. However it did take quite a bit of time to get used to the new narrator. Maybe this wouldn't have been so apparent if I had had a gap between the two.
I loved the characters, the historical setting and the story and look forward to the next book if there is one.

A fine tale
This is another enjoyable book by Georgina Clarke, I was a little disappointed by the new narrator, she had some very odd pronunciations, and her voice and diction weren't as likeable as Claire Trusson's.
I enjoyed the first book more, but that was probably because it was such an unexpected scenario, and also the narrator makes such a difference to a book.
The mystery was good and well worked, the characters were interesting and overall it was a jolly good read.

I listen to the first one and really loved it! I couldn’t wait for the second novel to come out! The characters are fantastic and highlight struggles of the period!

Another great book, but shame on narration
I have to say that this is another great book and very enjoyable, I did guess the motive before the end but the villain was still a mystery until the final reveal.
The only thing that let it down for me was the narrator! When you listen to the first book of a series, with a good narrator, all the characters come to life through their voices and those people are then set in your mind as those characters!
To then jump to a completely different narrator for the second book completely threw me!! As it felt all wrong and took me half the book to adjust to! Her voices were fairly good but the narration of the story itself was monotonous and too quick, I really struggled to keep up with the story as her voice made my mind wander off! Which is SUCH a shame as the story was fantastic!
The first book had the narrator breathe so much life into the main heroine, that I felt a bit gutted to see her replaced.
Please keep writing these!! As they are fab!! But PLEASE bring back the first narrator :-)

Thoughtful Historical Mystery
The Corpse Played Dead is even better than Lizzie Hardwicke's first adventure. This is clever and thought provoking with underlying social comment. It's a hard hitting tale.
Totally recommend.

Lizzy pulls it off...
...her sleuthing abilities and not just her clothes! Another fast pace read with some colourful characters and the return of Mr Davenport and Lizzy Hardwicke. Very enjoyable. Well done Georgina Clarke!
