Summary

Dr. Ari West's life plan, take one:

  1. Marry her college sweetheart.
  2. Become a pediatrician.
  3. Have a gaggle of gorgeous children of her own.

Dr. Ari West's life plan, take two:

  1. Watch her dirtbag husband walk out on her.
  2. Wonder what the hell to do with her empty house.
  3. Become a pediatrician anyway, and to hell with men.
  4. Until the strangest man in the world walks into her life, with a delightful daughter in tow.

Sometimes things don't go according to plan.

And falling in love with a man whose parents actually named him Oscar Wilde definitely isn't according to plan.

But Oscar, tech billionaire and recently single father, needs help. After his young wife's untimely death, he's on his own - with a toddler whose fragile health leaves him constantly overwhelmed, worried, and desperately in need of a miracle.

He just never thought his miracle - renowned pediatrician Dr. West - would be so damned beautiful.

Though Oscar, too, has a plan. And that plan never accounted for falling in love again. They could be perfect for each other...or they could tear each other apart, as their present attraction fights with the ghosts of their pasts.

But Ari's too determined to give up.

And one way or another...she'll have both the babe, and the tech baron she's starting to love.

The Baron and the Babe is a full-length stand-alone novel in the Heart Lines series, which can be heard in any order. With a gorgeous HEA ending and no cheating, you'll fall in love with this 18-plus-only story.

The Baron and The Babe: A Billionaire Medical Romance (Heart Lines Book 1)

I received a copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Doctor Ari West, a married succesful pediatrician, anyone would be envious to be in her situation, but something is missing from her life and that is her own baby. Struggling to become pregnant and seen as a failure to Roger, her husband, his solution is to leave and file for divorce.
Oscar Wilde, a tech billionaire and recently widowed is paranoid over the health of his toddler daughter, Tatiana. After losing his wife Camilla tragically to cancer he blames himself for not recognising the signs sooner. Did he miss something? Was there something he should have done? Could it have been prevented? He transfers his feelings of anxiety and stress to his daughter, constantly worry over any small sign of illness, a slight sniffle or a cough could be something serious so he seeks out not only one medical opinion but several, not trusting himself or any professional...until Ari.

Ari is different, she is caring, reassuring and attentive to not only Tatiana but also to Oscar. Ari can't stop herself, she knows they could be crossing boundaries and tells herself repeatedly that her meetings with Oscar are solely for his daughters benefit. She doesn't need this now. He doesn't need this now, but love has other ideas.

This is a smooth flowing romance of boy meets girl that flows easily, who can deny true love? The characters are likeable and both know it isn't the right time and try to fight their feelings for one another, a typical “ it's complicated “ situation. But add in a toddler, a divorce, a dirtbag of a husband and you have a whole other story! Although it is a sweet romance there are also several steamy adult moments.

The narration is descriptive and spoken at a natural steady pace. I particularly liked how each chapter was narrated from the viewpoint of a different character giving the listener the opportunity to become aware of each persona more profoundly. Renea Thompson has a vocal style and tone aligned with the written style but I felt that in the dialogue she doesn't always connect emotionally with the content.
Overall it was an enjoyable book with a happy-ever-after, an “ every cloud has a silver lining” kind of tale.
