Summary

Harold Robbins, a novelist known for steamy passion in his works, stirs up passion of a different kind in The Adventurers, a story of revolution and danger in the sultry jungles of South America.

As a young boy, Diogenes Alejandro Xenos, witnesses the murder of his mother and sister by a band of marauders. As "Dax" grows to adulthood, he channels his fear and hatred into a desire for revolution, swearing revenge on those in power as he upsets the status quo. His actions make him an outlaw, living on the fringes of society in a land turned upside down with corruption. He is wanted by men and women alike-but for very different reasons.

This epic tale of escape from the horrors of a third-world regime is one of Harold Robbins' most ambitious novels ever, combining his trademark sensuality with political intrigue and a globe-spanning variety of exotic locales. Lose yourself in The Adventurers.

brilliant

I really enjoyed this book. Not enough detail on the gruesome bits though, but still and very good read.

Harald Robbins best book

Although HE. has written many exceptional novels I find this to be his best book that I used to read every few years and now listening to it gives me much pleasure.
My only regret is that it is never as good as reading it for the first time.

Phew, glad that’s over. How was it for you?

A somewhat longwinded Adventure in its middle but otherwise a good listen. A button for skipping the sex references would have been useful as there were so many and seemed to get in the way. Like being distracted by goings on sounds coming through your hotel room wall when your trying to read a book. The narration was excallente.

long and winding...I should have given up!

Too many characters, too interwoven. hard to follow with some very long pointless sections. I stuck with it, but shouldn't have!

Started well, had great expectations actually… but it started getting very dull and finally I gave up, it was just wearing me down.

My first adventure with Harold Robbins

The Adventurers was the first of his books that I read many years ago. It has lost nothing with the passage of time and could have been written today. Robbins wrote powerful story’s full of larger than life but believable people .The Adventurers like any of his books is not for the delicate minded reader. All the sex and violence is in there but it’s written in a way that it belongs and the story would be pale without it. The reader was just right for the book and I’m wondering if he has narrated other Harold Robbins books that I intend to rediscover.

Far too long winded for me

This book was far too long! There was so much swapping of wives, girlfriends, mistresses between the various key characters that it somewhat confused me. The story had a sad ending, which left me feeling empty and disappointed. The writer covered some great narrative and descriptive passages, but overall there was too much waffle and it was far too long winded for me.I rated this as storyline three stars performance rating was fantastic at five stars
