Made me re-think going there.

"Ripping off foreigners is the Thai national sport"

I've been to quite a few countries, and I don't think I'm easily alarmed: however by the time I got to end of this three-in-one, I couldn't help getting the impression that Thais really don't like, or respect foreigners. What's being highlighted in this book isn't merely routine tourist shenanigans like a taxi driver charging you a few Bhat more than he'd charge a local. But rather a deep-seated cultural mentality that sees people from other countries as barely-human cattle to be ruthlessly milked dry, and physically beaten if they ever try to stick up for themselves. And those mentalities are backed-up by a government and legal system that is openly and unashamedly discriminatory.

The author is at pains to point he's not trying to dissuade you from visiting Thailand, so perhaps I'm getting a one-sided impression from a book called "Scam Land", and no doubt if I came from a poor country with many comparatively wealthy tourists I'd have some different attitudes too. But forewarned is forearmed, and whether you decide to go there or not: you'll definitely be better prepared after getting this. Particularly if you're in the extremely dicey business of looking for a wife.

Narrator does a good job.

Saved me before I even stepped in the country

Riveting book, I bought this book after hearing about jewellery scam from a friend, now everyone I ask has their own scam story from Thailand, hopefully now I won't join that club
