Summary

A daughter lost...

Nine months ago, Beatrix Rose had her family brutally taken from her. Now all that matters is getting her daughter back. And Beatrix is no ordinary mother - she’s a skilled assassin who will do whatever it takes to find her child.

A daughter found...

Danny Nakamura deserted his post in Vietnam and disappeared into Hong Kong’s Walled City, vowing never to go home again. Decades later, his health failing, he’s suddenly found a reason to return to LA: the discovery of a daughter he never knew he had. But getting home won’t be easy. Danny has powerful enemies in the CIA who will do whatever it takes to keep him out of the country.

The search begins.

Two people adrift in a foreign land, Beatrix and Danny need all the help they can get. A storm is coming. Can they help each other survive it and find their children before time runs out for both of them?

Really interesting read

Geographically sound, loved the travel

Good story, great narration

One criticism which is purely personal

Mr Dawson keeps using words such as “belly” and “slathered” repeatedly in his books, both of which make me cringe, I wish he could be a little more imaginative, but maybe others do not find this as abhorrent as I do

Still five stars though

*Beatrix does not mess around*

This instalment does not follow on from book 2 ‘Blood & Roses’ This one gives us a bit more background into Beatrix and how she operates and she is fearless. I almost feel like this book should have been book 2. Nevertheless it does not take away from the fact that it was a great read/listen

Beatrix is looking for her daughter after she was betrayed by the very people she worked for the government agency called ‘Group Fifteen’ she was their top Assassin. This happened when she stumbled upon information that the head of the group known as ‘Control’ wanted buried as he would be implicated in things he wanted concealed. They took everything from her including her daughter and she will not let that stand.

In this instalment she is also working with Danny who deserted his post in Vietnam for reasons that unfold in the book. Danny’s health is failing as age is catching up with him.

Years later he discovers he has a daughter and trying to leave Hong Kong to get to her is not straightforward. He holds some compelling evidence that can take down some very powerful people in the CIA. His name flagged up when he is motivated to go to LA to get a passport on the discovery he has a daughter. Beatrix decides to help him. Knowing this task will be fraught with danger does not put her off.

Now Beatrix has to use all her instincts and skills to help Danny to achieve his dream, she will be working with people she does not trust who completely dismiss her thinking she will be easy to kill, after all she is just one woman standing in the way of their prize, they do not know who they are dealing with….

Pretty decent

Not in my view quite up to the standard of the earlier books in the series but engaging enough. Good narration

Great Read

Wasn’t keen on the narrator’s voice/tone, but I did warm to it eventually, I thought it was slightly monotonous
