Summary

It's been five months since vampire Sam Parker Bound herself to Jared Michaels, her powerful co-commander within the Grand High Master vampire's personal legion. Life as a Bound couple has been going just fine...until the Grand High Master announces he will be stepping down from his position and wants Sam and Jared to take his place. Oh joy.

Despite Sam's reservations, she agrees to ascend. But something very powerful has surfaced; something that is quickly decreasing the vampire population and could steal the lives of people close to Sam. At the same time, she finds herself under the scrutiny of vindictive vampires accusing her of exploiting her position as a commander - something that would threaten her ascension.

Under the watchful eyes of people who would love nothing more than to strip her of her title, Sam and Jared must continue to conceal her hybrid status and find a way to fight this power that nothing before them has ever been able to overcome. If not, they stand to lose not only the people they hold close, but their future as the Grand High Pair.

An outstanding addition to the series.

I admit that as I have loved every book that I have ever read or listened to by Suzanne Wright- if pre-order is available then I always do it. I am a fan of her work.
I enjoyed this addition to the Deep in your Veins series. Taste of Torment maintains the high level of writing, the humour, feelings, suspense and adventure that has been evident in this whole series. Her continuity throughout a book series is fantastic. It has been evident in her other series'
Justine Eyre, P. J. Ochlan did another job with the narration. They are both great but Justine is a bit better at accents (though P.J.Ochlan is still pretty great but he does not do Sams accent brilliantly) I still gave the narration 5 stars as that small error is not detrimental to the enjoyment and they maintain a continuity with the outstanding voice acting, timing, pace and characters are recognisable due to the characters voice continuity.

Taste of Torment

Sam and Gerald find out that the head Vampire wants to retire and they need to step up to the challenge. Only when they are about to announce this decision is there another fight to take over the Hollow. With more fun and fighting along the way this third book is just as much fun as the first two. Read brilliantly again by Justine Eyre and P. J. Ochlan. 😂

A Gripping Race Against Time Adventure

Suzanne Wright is still a relatively new-to-me author and this is only the third book of hers that I've read but she is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. I love her writing style; the pace she set for her story, the characters she creates and the gripping plot-lines.

I loved that this book brought out so many of my emotions; yes, I did growl like a wild woman at times in frustration, I wanted to hide from the violence and cruelty and yes, I did shed a tear or two. But. I also smiled and chuckled out loud a lot at all the lighter moments, humour and well written banter. ;-)

I enjoy a story more when the female protagonist is intelligent, resilient, resourceful, self-reliant and has plenty of gumption. Sam ticks all those boxes and more. I love her sense of humour, sarkiness, loyalty and her an innate sense of right and wrong. All the characters that Ms Wright has created for this series are complex and multifaceted which makes both the villains and heroes feel real.

Once again, I downloaded the narration by Justine Eyre and P. J. Ochlan and enjoyed the variation that these actors brought to the duel point of view from Sam and Jared in this book. The only niggle I have is that, to my English ear, Ochlan's version of Sam's London accent not as good as Eyre's and he doesn't seem to have as many accents in his arsenal as she does but, despite this, they both swept me up with the story and plunged me feet first into the adventure.

Taste of Torment is a bloody good book and a great addition to this series.

Due to the sexual scenes, violence, colourful vocabulary and expletives throughout this story, I would recommend this book to adults who are not offended by content of this sort who love stories about kickass heroines and deserving alphas within the adult paranormal romance genre with story-lines about tenacity, loyalty, fighting against insurmountable odds and soul saving love.

Taste of Torment - deep in your veins book 3

Suzanne Wright's books are just awesome. Taste of Torment is the 3rd in the series and after reviewing this one I'm off to buy the next instalment. In the previous 2 books I criticised the female Narrator for the weird bbc English cross cockey accent for the character 'Sam', sounds like an upper class English person with BBC English trying to do a cockney accent but very badly. I still think that the accent could be better or the narrator could have just used the same voice she used for when Sam is thinking rather than when she is speaking as the rest of the Narration is excellent. I've gotten used to 'Sam's ' voice which has gotten and little better over the 3 books so far.
So thumbs up for the rest of the Naration it is excellent, would not want the narrator changing as she is excellent, but maybe work on the Cockney (London) accent or just use BBC English, nothing wrong with that.
Aside from all that another excellent series of books.
