About this listen

As the Warmaster's campaign of galactic domination continues, his generals seek out fresh battlefields to conquer. After leaving the Crone World of Iydris behind, Perturabo strikes for Tallarn. A bitter, vengeful primarch, the lord of the Iron Warriors unleashes a deadly bombardment against the world, killing millions but entrenching the survivors.

A brutal, all-consuming armoured conflict ensues, the greatest of the war and one that grinds down all combatants over more than a year of relentless battles. But Perturabo's reasons for the attack are about more than unleashing punitive destruction against the Imperium - he has an entirely darker purpose in mind.

Iron within! Iron Without!

Tallarn! The Horus heresy equivalent of the North Africa Campaign of WW2. Lot of characters to keep up with but that adds to the sheer scope of the conflict. Interesting first look at a Vanus Assassin. Lot of twists and turns.

Performance was outstanding as usual. Only slight change would be the scratchy machine voice of Hrend, otherwise spot on!

Good setting

Tallarn is an interesting setting and the stories about tank crews are pretty cool, enjoyed to big story at the end. A world where you can’t get out of your tank and combat is mostly through tanks.

Gripping!

An engrossing story where a large portion is akin to listening to a tank commander's minute by minute battle log.
Written well enough to have my imagination putting me into the tank as a war time observer.
I hope the authors have a chance to put me into another tank. Great stuff!

Slow

Slow start with epic ending. So many sides each with an agenda. Grind through the beginning and marvel at the Alpha legion cat and mouse with an assassin

Forgettable

Uncompelling story, part narrated by a guy who’s idea of a tank battle is people speaking calmly to one another

why change the fulff.

great listen, but those who have a history with gw and wd know that they have taken this battle, and changed it to fit some thing else. why change the fluff, were they short of original ideas????

Strong finish....

....dragged a little to start with. A selection of Tallarn theme short stories that build to an interesting ending. Not a must read for the Heresy.....but worth the credit if you like the Iron Warriors and Alpha Legion.

one of the best in the Horus Heresy series.

Such great storytelling which describes the reasons behind the Iron Warriors committing so thoroughly to the war on Tallarn and why the loyalists fought so hard to keep it. Doesn't just talk about the Iron Warriors and the human forces however...
A must read in the series.

flow burn

another slow burner novel. I was hoping for some backstorey on the planet Tallen but never really got that. cool tank battles but never finished the story. No idea where to find the conclusion will be.
