About this listen
The severed head of Micky Crounan, local baker, is grinning gruesomely up from the bottom tier of his own cake. Katie Maguire of the Irish Garda is baffled--until another local businessman goes missing in horrific circumstances. Soon Katie is on the trail of a debt-collecting gang calling themselves the Kings of Erin. But these are very dangerous men. And they will stop at nothing to throw Katie off the trail....

Terrible narration!
I have loved this series, really cleaver and different, and tbf this is a gud story, BUT ….. sorry but the narrator sounds like sum 1 just reading text! Very poor choice.

Unfortunately spoilt by the narrator
I stuck with this book because I wanted to see the series continue, but I am glad to see that the narrator changes again for the next book.
Unfortunately the narrator was obviously quite inexperienced and the inflection was often placed on the wrong part of sentences, or the wrong tone of voice used to express emotions. It’s a shame. Might be worth a re-record with a different narrator.
Apart from that Masterton’s skilful story telling keeps you gripped and wanting to carry on listening. It’s just a shame that he has a rather ‘soft porn’ view of how women act with other women.

very gory.
I didn't like the descriptive acts of torturous killing but the story was good. Narrator not the best.

Brilliant with the capital 'B'!
Any additional comments?
Oh yes...Brilliant with the capital 'B'! Yet again, Masterton has not fail me and love this series. I actually started with Book 3 then I searched for the ealier series of Katie Maguire Books. First book was on rituals, second was on 'naughty' priests & third on ritual & revenge. Really love the twist with this one with good ending too, I've been expecting from the earlier series something so not right with her 'acting' superior but not to this extend. I hope there's a Book 5 especially now that John is back. :D I envy this woman, Katie Maguire! She's strong willed, witty & damn sexy...she's a real Kick-Ass! And as for the narrator, I don't know what with all the fuss but Louise Fitzpatrick does bring the characters and scenes so clear, graphic and vivid in my head as good as Caroline Lennon did in another book of the the same series.

Sadly very poor narration
I liked the story itself, but unfortunately - and I feel bad saying it, as narrators no doubt read their reviews - the narration really let it down. It sounded like a schoolkid reading something out loud in class for the first time. Please quality check the narration, Audible.

Worst Narration
I can't understand how the narrator managed to do such an awful job of this - I kept thinking "maybe this person has never heard anyone read out loud before?". Bizarre, and thoroughly distracting. The storyline is so good it's a real shame to be so badly read.

Series continues to be great
Any additional comments?
Thoroughly enjoyed this latest edition to the Katie Maquire series. Whilst the narrator did her best to make this as an enjoyable listen, her narration often became rather emotionless and grey. Hopefully this will improve in the next instalment.

Not for the feint hearted
Yet another Latie Mcquire boo which lives upto expectations. Very graphic descriptions of murder, and so this may not be for you.

Exhilerating Read
This is the fourth Katy McGuire story I have read and although Caroline Lennon is not the narrator of this one her replacement does an excellent job which is good news as I hesitated about buying when I saw there had been a change of narrator.
The action takes place in Cork where a mysterious gang calling themselves the Kings of Ireland are perpetrating kidnappings and despite all the efforts of the Police to head them off, it becomes apparent that someone in the Gardai is passing on information. Katy feels persecuted by her boss and if this is not bad enough a new neighbour - a veterinary surgeon - pours oil on the water too.
The plot is intricate and is full of twists and turns to keep your interest at a peak. There is only one rather explicit sex scene that reads more like an autopsy than an erotic moment but this author does not do sex scenes very well in my opinion. Apart from that quibble I found the book to be very well written in the crime genre.
A high point for me was that the story is peppered with anecdotes concerning the real kings of Ireland and quite frankly they were not always very princely in their behaviour!
