Summary
A revolutionary new self-help book by top flight game designer Jane McGonigal.
After suffering a brain injury, Jane McGonigal came up with a game to help aid her recovery and battle the ensuing depression she experienced. Half a million people have now played this game to astonishing results: depression gone in 6 weeks in some cases and even terminal cancer patients reporting that playing the game gives them a sense of control over their own health. The book shows readers how to use these techniques to find strength and create positivity: readers can look to their own ‘power-ups’ which are little things they can do to feel better and tackle the hurdles in their own lives.
This book provides simple step-by-step ideas that can be carried out in day-to-day life, helping you transform your life with a new flexible and reenergised mindset. In this book McGonigal uses her own story and those of others to expertly demonstrate how simple changes can result in dramatic life-affirming effects. And what’s more, she tells you how you yourself can lead a more “gameful” life.

Thoroughly enjoyable and even life changing!
I love this book, it’s very well written and informative. I feel this has already changed my life and my approach to work and I only finished listening to it a few days ago. I’m planning to listen to it again at some point soon. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!! Definitely worth a listen.

Bit by bit helps to move forward
Brilliantly read by the author.
Enjoyed every second.
Energising and motivating.
It makes me start moving my “niash” and do something with my life.
Worth listening to the end.

Had high hopes, demotivated halfway
Like the science of the book and the passive gains.
Got overwhelmed by all the rules and quests, epic wins and power ups. Not good for me at the moment as I am trying to not set goals that are too big for me and expanding the goal til I fail.
But ended on a good note with adventures.
Read it and take away what works for you. Definitely something in there for anyone.

Loses track of its purpose halfway through.
I enjoyed the first part, in which JMcG introduces a wealth of fascinating research and opinion.
She seems to run out of steam about 60% of the way through. After this, the book becomes somewhat repetitive and descends into list-like regurgitation of the UGC generated by the app of the same name.
I managed a few chapters of this before giving up. I remain a fan.

Cool concept but a lot of waffling about
The author either needs to clear her throat before recording or work on losing the vocal fry when narrating. It's a struggle to listen to.
The content is fairly interesting and helpful but also contains much padding making it much less engaging than it should be.
