Summary
Start making savvier decisions and outsmart your competitors with greater confidence and ease with this simple and comprehensive guide to the skills, tactics, techniques, tools, case studies, and lessons behind strategic thinking. Professor Ridgley has crafted these 24 lectures as an accessible way to engage with thinking that will help you think-and act-more strategically in business and in your own life, whether you're the CEO of a Fortune 500 company or you're preparing to embark on a new career path.
These lectures are loosely organized around several key topics central to effective strategic thinking, including: principles of conflict (in which you'll follow the development of strategic theory from its roots in great military campaigns to its modern applications in business); competitive intelligence (which plays an increasingly important role in strategic thinking); and tools of strategy and analysis (which can aid your understanding of the forces that shape our future and can help you make sense of a rapidly changing world).
Central to these lectures are the tools and tricks that strategic thinkers have used to better approach problems and seek lasting solutions. Among those you'll learn how to use are the indirect approach (which offers you a much greater utility in achieving your objectives without approaching your opponent head-on); the value chain (a method that divides your team or organization into its value - producing activities so you can better inform yourself on its internal strengths and weaknesses; and the four actions framework (in which you ask yourself four questions to challenge your established logic in an effort to gain a stronger competitive advantage).

An interesting insight into strategic thinking skills
This audio book provides many useful insights to consider when looking to improve strategic thinking skills. I didn’t necessarily agree with all the points and ideas but it was useful to think about them and be able to pick and choose the ideas that resonated with me. This book read in concert with others would provide a solid foundation in the concept of strategic thinking.

Engaging, Practical, Worthwhile!
I have listened to a handful of Great Courses programmes and this is one of my favourite so far.
Not being very strategic, it seemed like a good choice, so from the point of view of a newbie:
- This course was very accessible; they assume you know nothing
- It had some engaging stories woven in, which is helpful to keep your interest
- There were examples of how the key points could be used in business and everyday life, making it highly practical
I also liked the lecturer he came across as very approachable and I would listen to other lecturers by him.
All things considered, it's worth a buy if you are new to the subject and I presume if you are not it would be a very handy refresher.

Great Strategic Overview
If you are looking to learn, build on or simply remind yourself about strategy this is an excellent book for you to listen too.
The lectures are full of lessons that we can all relate too and implement into our daily and professional lives.
Unfortunately, the course sides more on millitary strategy than I would prefer, however that shouldn't detract from its overall value to you.

Excellent introduction to strategy
What did you like most about Strategic Thinking Skills?
Contents, case studies, and even the performance of the lecturer make the course interesting, inspiring, and even entertaining. I enjoyed the historical excursus from the ancient romans to now days generals, entrepreneurs and sport coaches as well as all thematic related to the characteristic of a good strategy and what can make it fail. I would recommend this course without hesitation.

sows seeds for action- accessible and enjoyable
Would you listen to Strategic Thinking Skills again? Why?
I'd listen to this again- it's got a lot of interesting anecdotes; is well read; well structured and made me think about things to do
What about Professor Stanley K. Ridgley’s performance did you like?
engaging to listen to and kept my attention
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
it caused me to think about things in a different way and consider specific things I'd do
Any additional comments?
A great overview of strategic thinking, peppered with anecdotes and examples to bring it alive. With examples from the battlefield to the boardroom; the past to the present; from failures to success. And for that reason, giving it a wide appeal, and the opportunity to think through the relevance of different ideas.

Decent
I did not learn anything practical, but it was still a good series. Stretched out a bit.

best courses
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
for me, there's nothing better than The Great Courses, and this one is no exception. Huge, detailed, useful, made by proven experts and not by hacks (and you can find tons of hacks nowadays) and comes with a reference 'guidebook' that I always really like, because I can learn fast even if I only read the guidebook. Learning by reading and additionally by listening when I am sitting on the toilet bowl, etc, reinforces learning. Can't fault it. These courses are usually not cheap, but on audible they are, so really if you don't value this, you are not a good learner.

Good overview of Strategy
Not so accessible to a European audience, unless you are an expert on American Football
