Summary

'This book is a joy to read, unlocking every bit of delicious promise in the premise' B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog

Meet Greta Helsing, doctor to the undead.

After inheriting a highly specialised, and highly peculiar, medical practice, Dr Helsing spends her days treating London's undead for a host of ills: vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta's dreamed of since childhood.

But when a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human undead and alike, Greta must use all her unusual skills to keep her supernatural clients - and the rest of London - safe.

Good listen

I’m Really pleased I found this series, easy listening but could do with a slight pause between switching scenes

modern urban fantasy

Maybe took a little while to get its hooks in me but once it did I was very happy.

Excellent.

An extremely enjoyable and satisfying read. Entertaining and well-written. If you love London, the gothic and the urbane, you will like this novel.

Unique and Engaging

I loved this story. Just the right mix of pacey plot and characters you come to love. Description of an alternative London is so vivid you can smell the rain and the narrator is excellent and brings a wonderful sense of place to the tale. I’ve already bought book 2!

What do I say...?

A fascinating story, gripping, convoluted, unusual, intriguing.

Beautifully read though at times I think pauses between paragraphs and scenes could have been more pronounced. Changes in scenes weren't clear and confused because of this.

Can’t wait for more!

Really enjoyed the story line and imagining the varying characters who are colourfully described.
I’m really looking forward to more in the series.
Great narration unlike some audio books that sound robotic and auto-tuned.

Great story, poor production

I really liked this book. The story was good and I enjoyed the normality of the relationship between the so-called monsters and Greta.
The narration was enjoyable in my opinion. She had a beautiful voice and I just love an English accent. True, it was a little confusing at times, to figure out who said what but not enough to detract much from the story. The production, however, was poor! There was no pauses between sections at all. It was very confusing to go from one location to a completely different one in both space, time, and people without any transition.
All in all a very enjoyable story and I look forward to listening to the second book in the series.

What a book

After what was a pretty slow start this story took off

Compelling characters and a wonderfully described world the author aced them both

I can’t wait for the next one

Wonderful

This probably my favourite listen of the year so far.

I loved the characters old and new. The monsters were fun, and plot was enjoyable, if you didn't look too hard.

I thought the narrator worked very well for the story, the cool calm voice worked very well for me. Greta is a cool character who thinks things through rather than just reacting. I felt the voice of the narrator worked because it felt like Greta was narrating.

My only problem was that I listened to the book at every opportunity, so I finished it really quickly and now I have to wait to see if there will be a third book. (though I might go back and listen to the first book again :) )

Novel idea

interesting and clever plot. Main character is engaging and fully realised. Ending felt a bit contrived.
