  • Summary

  • Please note: this series contains adult themes, strong language and scenes which some people may find upsetting. Listener discretion is advised.

One woman’s fiercely vivid account of being stalked, an 'invisible violence' that poisons her life.

When X sees Lily on stage, he begins an imaginary affair of 13 years, and counting. He’s crossed oceans, posed as her colleague. He even bought a suit for their 'wedding'. But they’ve never met.

Dancer and film-maker Lily Baldwin takes us into her world – the insidious fear, legal challenges, survival techniques. This series asks what’s at stake when we’re seen.

We want followers but we don’t want to be followed. And, without obvious blood, how can we measure this invisible violence?

A Ventureland production for Audible Originals.

Useful resources if you or a friend/family member is being stalked:

If you are in immediate danger or fear a threat of harm, call your national police emergency number.

Lily advises: 'We started STOP STALKING US because there was not enough guidance on where and how to get help. This is what we want to change. While that change is happening, we are sharing the best advice available from experts, while acknowledging that not all options are available to everyone in an equitable way. This needs to change, too.

If you are being stalked, we recommend you begin talking with law enforcement to create a log of evidence. Stalking laws and definitions differ from country to country and state to state, so local law enforcement can help you determine your next steps. For statistics to be accurate, we need stalking to be reported.

We’re sharing below helpful resources for some regions with programs in operation.'

I have had a stalker for eight years

This illustrates so many of my experiences - Trying to explain this to others is so difficult, Lilly manages to tell her story so well.

Chilling

Uncomfortable listening to be honest, not sure I'll manage to listen to the other instalments.

Over-the-top Creative Writing Exercise

The premise is interesting and I want to hear how it plays out l, but I’ve suffered through 3 episodes now and the writer is just so over dramatic. It’s read like a creative writing piece from high school or poetry (but utterly awful).

I’d much prefer a straightforward account of what happened than this. Not sure if I care enough to slog through the rest of it.

Stalking must be criminalised worldwide

I admire Lily for her courage to speak up. Stalking and all of its components (intimidation, harassment, bullying and gaslighting) are destroying the victims/survivors’ lives. There are probably hundred of thousands victims across the globe. I listened to another podcast where one perpetrator had over 50 victims spanning over two decades. It must be criminalised asap, regardless of regions/jurisdictions and perpetrators mental status. The golden age of internet has given fertile ground for those crimes to humanity increase in numbers and severity. Lily has told her story brilliantly and transported us in her universe eloquently. I am grateful for her work and wish her a happy life.

Tough story -

Really tough story I’m sure it’s been terrifying. Very emotional listening to her mum tell her perspective of the impact of the stalking. For me, the horror of the stalking was lost in the telling. Dramatic use of adjectives and creative phrasing - I just lost the story in the language. I understand the author is using language to blossom her feeling onto the page but for me, it marginalised the impact. I’m not minimising what she went through or is going through. I just don’t think the way the experience is told does the horror of it justice.

A brave expose of stalking

A brave expose of the suffering caused by stalkers and how the system lets them get away with destroying peoples lives.

Mixed

I think the topic this covers is very important, also appreciated how the narrator tried to recreate her emotional state at the time of the actual events occurring.
It is too long though, I struggled to get through it, at one point nearly forgot about it, episodes were unnecessarily drawn out.
Was worth it though.

Surprisingly brilliant

I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Really well done and left me feeling kind of haunted

Excellent narration

Very interesting story about how a stalker affects the life of the narrator over 13 years. True story. It would have been more interesting if there was more on the stalkers background
