About this listen
New York Times Best Seller
In this book, Billy Crystal, currently starring in the new TV show The Comedians as an aging comic, gives a hilarious and heartfelt account of what it's really like to get older. Billy Crystal is turning 65, and he’s not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island to his years doing stand-up in the village up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards.
Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees, his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali.
He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (“the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac”), grandparenting, and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal’s reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

Simply superb
A brilliant story written with such honesty and openness it draws you into Billy’s world easily. A fabulous laugh along tale that shines a big light on Billy’s obvious love for his wife and family. I especially enjoyed the stand up comedy parts as this guy is a fast talking comic with perfect timing. I’ll be listening to this again soon enough...simply superb from start to finish.

Brilliant book
I loved this book, some interesting, humble stories, and I found myself thinking - I’m a female, younger version of Billy, everything he says is like reading my mind !

Very amusing, sometimes poignant but occasionally a little too much on the Ali worship
This is a very enjoyable audiobook from one of America’s finest comedians. It charts Crystal’s upbringing in a Jewish New York family to how his stand up and acting career gathers momentum, all the way to him turning 65 and reflecting on his own posterity. Throughout are weaved amusing anecdotes about his career (the Orson Welles joke is brutal!), his family life and his thought on getting older.
Undoubtedly the funniest moments are when he’s performing live and riffing. There are also some very tender moments when he talks about his loved ones, particularly towards the end.
The only criticism would be what feels like an obsession with Mohammed Ali and Micky Mantle. I realise they are heros of Crystal but it does get a little tiresome hearing about them after a while.
A highly enjoyable listen nonetheless.

A witty poignant book where Billy reflects on a wonderful life and the many characters in it. Fantastic. Made me laugh out loud, smile in recognition and shed a tear too.
