About this listen

Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan Anakin Skywalker star in this thrilling galactic adventure set three years after the events of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

When a Republic spy goes missing on the Moons of Varl, the Jedi Council asks Obi-Wan and Anakin to infiltrate an underground podracing circuit run by a crime boss believed to be holding the spy prisoner. With Anakin posing as a hotshot racer and Obi-Wan as his attendant, tensions between the two threaten to run even higher than usual.

But when Obi-Wan is forced to leave Varl, Anakin is on his own as he faces a series of increasingly treacherous races that will determine his fate—and that of the spy.

Master and apprentice must use all their Jedi skills in this action-packed tale of cutthroat competition, deadly deception, and, ultimately, what it means to be a Padawan.

Exciting and thrilling short story

A very exciting and thrilling short story throughout, which was the perfect length. Great to explore the early days of Anakin being Obi Wan's padawan. Very well narrated too!

Fun early Anakin and Obi-Wan romp

Really enjoyed this for what it was. Gives you an insight into the post episode 1 Anakin and Obi-Wan dynamic. Well narrated and fun.

Pleasantly surprised

I’ve read or listened to star wars novels since i was small, so I have ViewS:
specifically I tend to the belief that they should be pulpy action adventure stories.
The more recent Star wars novels I’ve read have dragged a bit and taken themselves a bit too seriously.
So I was a little skeptical about a free audiobook about Obi-Wan and Anakin, but as it was free, I thought I’d give it a go.
I’m glad I did!
I really enjoyed it!
12 year old Anakin is slightly stroppy but that seems fair characterisation.
Obi-Wan is learning how to be a teacher - I have some sympathy.
The story is a fun romp, and the short form avoids the navel gazing that I’ve found in some of the other recent star wars novels.
Kevin Kemp reads at a good pace and does a decent job with the voice acting - his Obi-Wan is good, his Anakin a little squeaky, and his brief Qui-Gon excellent.
