About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The next adventure in the High Republic, expanding the new era of
Star Wars, with a story set generations before Light of the Jedi.

It is an age of exploration. Jedi travel the galaxy, expanding their understanding of the Force and all the worlds and beings connected by it. Meanwhile, the Republic, led by its two chancellors, works to unite worlds in an ever-growing community among near and distant stars.

On the close orbiting planets of Eiram and E'ronoh, the growing pains of a galaxy with limited resources but unlimited ambition are felt keenly. Their hatred for each other has fueled half a decade of escalating conflict and now threatens to consume surrounding systems. The last hope for peace emerges when heirs from the two planets' royal families plan to marry.

Before lasting peace can be established, an assassination attempt targeting the couple tilts Eiram and E'ronoh back into all-out war. To save both worlds, Jedi Knight Gella Nattai volunteers to uncover the culprit, while Chancellor Kyong appoints her son, Axel Greylark, to represent the Republic's interests in the investigation.

But Axel's deep distrust of the Jedi sparks against Gella's faith in the Force. She's never met such a puffed-up, privileged party boy, and he's never met a more self-serious, relentless do-gooder. The more they work to untangle the shadowy web of the investigation, the more complicated the conspiracy appears to be. With accusations flying and potential enemies in every shadow, the pair will have to work together to have any hope of bringing the truth to light and saving both worlds.

A brilliant return to form

a fantastic book. World's better than the atrociously awful 'path of deciet'. Convergence begins by dropping you in the middle of a war between two twin planets who share more than just a moon. A strong story love and betrayal with some wonderful character arcs, this is a treat for any star wars fan and rights phase two on to a good future.

Good punchy opening to phase 2

Genuinely really enjoyed this. Really liked the characters as well. Not too many. Just a good amount of individuals with some depth. Would recommend this. Much in vein with the better star wars THR books from phase 1.

Decent story but added little to Star Wars

A back story to the previous light of the Jedi tales. while good and introduces enjoyable new characters conceptually it didn't really fit into the Star Wars world or expand on the grand story.

Another epic High Republic story!

I loved the journey the characters went on in this story and there were some real surprises. there's a complexity to the characters in the high republic series that really shines through in this book. Great addition to the series!

Skippable

A good performance by the narrator, and an OK story.
As part of the overall High Republic narrative though, it added little to nothing to the ongoing story setup in Phas 1 and to be continued in Phase 3.

I also listened to Path of Deceit which gave a little more backstory to the events in Phase 1, but this book seems to be a mostly self contained story which means if you're only interested in expanding on Phase 1, you will find little here.

Another fantastic Star Wars novel!

This novel was absolutely fantastic. A complex, compelling plot that propelled me to keep on listening. The author did a stellar job in giving each character a unique, rememberable personality, with satisfying individual story-arcs. I really felt what the characters were are going through.

As always, Marc Thompson does a terrific job at narration. The music and sound effects also enhance the listening experience, creating a truly cinematic experience. 9 out of 10 for me

Very enjoyable

I was expecting a Romeo amd Juliet type story, but this was much more interesting. Also our eventual villain
, (I won't spoil it) had that beautifully Star Wars trait of having the possibility of redemption almost up to the end. Great. Looking forward to the rest of phase 2!

Strong opening to a new crisis

Having felt a little overwhelmed with too many Jedi, too many indistinct characters and a lot of location-hopping in the First Phase of The High Republic, Cataclysm does a great job in starting modest and building slowly.

I felt the existing conflict and the stakes were accessible and we were giving just enough exposition to move forward without drowning in 'world building'. really looking forward to what comes next.
